Yes there really are people who have been waiting for 15 years to buy this game. I know, because they're me!

Been playing since 2006, and you didn't have to wait till this day to pay for Dwarf Fortress if you wanted to - the donations have always been open. But now that it has the release, even though I've been donating to the brothers for years now, I'm more than happy to buy this too.

The game itself is truly unique in depth and breadth. There are a handful of games out there that try to catch some of the magic, but it's all just catching glimmers of the shine coming off of this ongoing product of a strange mood.
