After so long, it feels like a miracle this game has come out. After a few hours of play, Bannerlord looks to be what every sequel should strive to achieve; a massive improvement and evolution upon the previous games, but retaining that unique experience and feel of its predecessors.

For gameplay, Bannerlord is as brutal and intense as ever. Even with the same combat mechanics, and after long hours playing the previous games, starting up Bannerlord gave me that adrenaline rush I haven't felt since first playing Mount & Blade. The improvements in visuals has also added to the intensity and feel of combat.

Probably the largest improvement and overhaul in Bannerlord is in UI and quality of life. Inventory management is actually really good now, party management is likewise great. Having an immediate view of your food stockpile and consumption, morale, health, wounded, and more from the map screen is wonderful. Viewing which people have quests when moving into towns, seeing what units you can recruit and taking exactly how many and which ones you want makes the more mundane tasks more convenient.

The way in which you order your troops is very different and I'm still adjusting, but already feels much easier to position your troops. Being able to look at a point on the map and order a group to move there is much less of a hassle, and your troops begin battle holding position rather than charging, which I prefer.

Quests seem more fun and varied now, and I'm finding myself actually going to do them for money rather than immediately resorting to pillaging and looting. This might change after getting further in, but for now I'm having a surprising amount of fun taking quests from random villages, and getting a healthy amount of money from it too. The fact that good relations with villages guarantees a larger and more elite recruitment pool makes it more enticing, too, which was definitely needed.

There is also a much more involved skill tree, which I will not comment on yet considering how long I've played at time of review, but it is fairly straightforward and easy to understand. Same goes with siege combat, spying and managing fiefs, I do not have enough experience yet to give a solid opinion on.

In terms of negatives, I have come across a small number of dialogue text not coming up, which at least didn't break the dialogue tree. I have had one crash to desktop when starting a raid on a bandit camp.

Finally, peasants haven't yelled at me that it's almost harvesting season, which makes me sad. Overall though, a solid game and a worthy sequel. So far feels worth the wait, and I highly recommend.

It has been a while since I got so interested in the story of a game, and the gameplay itself is very fun and satisfying to watch, giving you a large number of partners to choose from to allow for a number of different strategies in combat.

The game itself is somewhat short, and I would very much enjoy more material to play through. However, I believe it works to its benefit to be rather short and sweet, as there are already enough sandbox type games that become too much of a grind to get through, it's nice to see a game that focuses on a good story while not sacrificing fun gameplay.

The mix of depressing, sometimes disturbing atmospheres with a bit of comedy is very well done, neither really feel overused or out of place, it all blends smoothly for the most part.

Game works beautifully and combat is incredibly exciting! I'm not very happy about the fact that certain races can't capture certain territories, only burn them to the ground, but honestly the rest of the features they added to the campaign make up for it, and each one does feel unique after playing the first few turns of multiple races.

The thing I'm happiest about is that the game works so well on release, since I had no problems playing it the second it unlocked. Hopefully this will continue and that they learned their lesson from the dissapointment of Rome 2. More playable races in the future will definitely keep this game fresh as time goes on, and with a lot of content being promised I'm excited to be playing this game for a long time.

So after a first impression, I'm prepared to say that all is forgiven and that my faith is mostly restored in Creative Assembly. I'm still a bit concerned about the introduction of pre-order DLC, and hopefully the expansions to come will stay reasonable.
