Over the past two years, I've been off and on grinding my way through the War Thunder tech trees. Although quite a pain, I have seemed to enjoy this game after every break I take from playing it. Might it just be the friends I play with? I haven't a clue, but all in all, I feel like this game may actually be worth the time I've spent in it so far.
Pros:
- Somewhat large playerbase, with around 30000 people on during the weekend afternoons.
- Hundreds of vehicles to choose from, with now 7 factions (6 ready, 1 WIP), and a variety of planes, tanks, and soon boats to choose from.
- Realisitic physics, with realistic ballistics and penetration values, plus critical crew components which justify just how fast you're going to reload and fire back at the enemy (if you get that far.)
- New content added every few months, giving most at least one new vehicle to check out each major update.
- Quite good server quality, at least for my area (Southern US) 40ms ping (the lowest ping I have in any game, due to my mediocre internet)
- Great optimization (for me at least), I first ran this game at high settings with an AMD fx4300, with 4 GB of RAM and a GT610, which had everything looking great. I've since maxed out every setting and run 60 fps solid with a GTX1050 ti.

Some of the more noticable cons:
- Teammates aren't exactly, cooperative or helpful; it's best to have a friend with similar vehicles and have them in your squad.
- Game is quite a pay-to-getsomewhere type thing, with progression beginning to halt midway through the tech tree (there is a solution though)
- Best solution to slow progression is to pay a "small" fee to get a premium account for a near doubling to your income per match. 25 USD gets you 3 months of premium account plus 1000 GE (Premium Currency) to play around with.
- I've put in close to 200 USD to get 5 premium vehicles, plus some help with progressing in tech trees. Money seems to spend quickly with this game.

Overall, things seem to be going well (In my opinion) for War Thunder. Though I may have recieved a miniscule amount of the pain others have recieved from updates, I do understand their pains, and am sure I will feel them eventually. In the end, I do reccommend this game for those looking for a free to play, simulator type, Pre-WWII to Mid Coldwar era game with decent physics and graphics. It is, in my opinion, better than most alternatives.
