From the developers of GOAT Metroidvania Rabi-Ribi, is the 2nd GOAT Metroidvania Tevi. While a substantial upgrade in some respects, there are a few areas where Rabi-Ribi remains on top.

What the game improves on the most is the combat. The sigil system is a substantial improvement over badges by offering more customization through sheer volume. The impact on the combat is the potential to completely change the way you play the game. This is the closest we will get to Devil May Cry 5 in 2d in terms of combat mechanics and depth.

Unfortunately Rabi-Ribi's defining feature was its completely non-linear map design and this map feels like a small step back, especially if you play in the story mode. While a non-linear mode exists, the overall design of the map is quite a bit more restrictive when compared to Rabi-Ribi. Still, it is ahead of the majority of maps in the genre so this aspect is only noticeable to players of Rabi-Ribi.

While there are a lot of improvements in the fluidity of the movement and combat, the enemy design and the bosses leave a bit to be desired in teams of difficulty. It is clear they have lowered the barrier of entry to cater to a new audience, and this is a great starting point if Rabi-Ribi was too difficult, but veterans will find few challenges in the base version of the game. DLC is being worked on as of this review, so I am expecting this to be improved as more content is released.

Overall, TEVI is a great entry to this style of Metroidvania for newcomers and has the content to rival the likes of Hollow Knight.

One of the best designed open world games since Breath of the Wild.

Greatest metroidvania game ever made. Don't let the aesthetics fool you, this game is a masterpiece in game design.

This is still the best Tales game overall. It was already a very complete game when it released on the Xbox, and now it has even more content. One of the only games to actually live up to the definitive edition title. Battle system only feels dated early on, but each skill unlock brings the battle system closer to its full potential.
Only real negative is the jarring switch between old and newly recorded lines, especially if voice actors changed. I would have preferred they record all of a character's lines if the voice actor changed, similarly to how the Neptunia franchise handles their remakes. There is no excuse seeing as Bandai Namco has a far larger budget than IF/CH.

This game is like Dark Souls 1 or Nier Automata on PC. An otherwise great game with an extremely bad port on launch. But it's gotten better and some were lucky enough to encounter none of the common issues. I managed to play the entire game and get all its achievements with minimal issue.

I recommend this game if you like any of the following: Dark Souls, Nier, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, Castlevania, Makoto Shinkai's "Your Name", Chrono Trigger, Monster Hunter, Zelda, and/or anything made by Falcom before.

Now imagine elements from all of those things mixed into one game. That's Ys VIII. Incredibly well design world, great combat system, tons of mechanics and things to do, and one of the craziest twists in video game history. Even if you don't want to deal with the PC version, go get this on PS4, Vita or Switch instead. It's absolutely criminal that a game this great is being held back by NISA's incompetence.

This game singlehandedly sets the standard for all future Japanese PC ports. By recruiting optimization modder Durante to actually provide optimizations and post launch support, Xseed has proven that PC porting isn't as expensive or difficult as major publishers like Square Enix pretends it is. On top of optimizations are PC exclusive features like Turbo Mode, an FOV slider, and autosaves. Xseed and Falcom are proving to be the CD Projekt RED of JRPGs, and their games happen to be of that quality as well.

As with every Trails game, this game is just as phenominal as the Trails in the Sky trilogy was. It's one of the only JRPGs I could ever immediately start a NG+ on minutes after the credits roll. The characters are well written and fleshed out, the world is meticulously handcrafted to be unique and interesting, and the major story beats sets up the incredible sequel very well.

This is an excellent game to get into the Trails franchise. It was designed with newcomers in mind, yet still retains everything veterans love about the franchise. The amount of quality hours you can put into this game makes the full asking price worth it, and all purchases of this game is directly making a statement about what PC JRPG players want out of their ports.

The sequel and finale to the best JRPG on steam. You are doing yourself a disservice as a JRPG fan for sleeping on the Trails series. These two games will change your opinion on RPGs forever.

This is the best JRPG on steam. At least until its direct sequel, Trails in the Sky 2 is released. Don't be fooled by the anime graphics, the slow but innocent start, or the upbeat battle theme. This game is easily one of the most deep, rich, and well written stories in gaming ever. This is the game that turns non-believers into the Cult of Falcom.
