From the developers of GOAT Metroidvania Rabi-Ribi, is the 2nd GOAT Metroidvania Tevi. While a substantial upgrade in some respects, there are a few areas where Rabi-Ribi remains on top.

What the game improves on the most is the combat. The sigil system is a substantial improvement over badges by offering more customization through sheer volume. The impact on the combat is the potential to completely change the way you play the game. This is the closest we will get to Devil May Cry 5 in 2d in terms of combat mechanics and depth.

Unfortunately Rabi-Ribi's defining feature was its completely non-linear map design and this map feels like a small step back, especially if you play in the story mode. While a non-linear mode exists, the overall design of the map is quite a bit more restrictive when compared to Rabi-Ribi. Still, it is ahead of the majority of maps in the genre so this aspect is only noticeable to players of Rabi-Ribi.

While there are a lot of improvements in the fluidity of the movement and combat, the enemy design and the bosses leave a bit to be desired in teams of difficulty. It is clear they have lowered the barrier of entry to cater to a new audience, and this is a great starting point if Rabi-Ribi was too difficult, but veterans will find few challenges in the base version of the game. DLC is being worked on as of this review, so I am expecting this to be improved as more content is released.

Overall, TEVI is a great entry to this style of Metroidvania for newcomers and has the content to rival the likes of Hollow Knight.
