Even better than It Takes Two, though it could do with the addition of a sassy Latino book.

A subtle Lovecraftian horror game about two people able to perceive the true nature of reality battling to control their little world.

The art and the creativity is top notch. A unique experience that is worth playing.

Atomfall is built on discovery with story lines interweaving. You're trusted to pick up the threads without a hundred map icons and waypoints. Multiple characters offer the opportunity to win the game. It's satisfying to work with each of them, as they offer a different perspective of the world, right until the end where they all funnel into a short and mediocre finish. The combat has a satisfying weight, even if it's unoriginal. Ending aside, the game is worth playing for the vibe and the exploration.

The game is really focused on fun combat, and a beautiful world that rewards exploration. It's a rare game that lets you mix abilities from every class and be a sword-wielding wizard with a gun for backup.

A hell of an adventure, and the pixel art is incredible.

It's impressive how much a small team was able to accomplish. The scope of what they tried to do is huge, but the level of polish on the final product is low.

The game can be boiled down to two things: FPS arena fights, and secrets that mostly take the form of little comedy skits. Some of the comedy lands, and some of it doesn't. It's a toothless brand of comedy that aims to be wacky without poking fun at anyone or anything in particular. There's joy to be had in exploring a level and discovering these details, but that joy is severely tampered by levels filled with invisible walls, and arbitrary one-way gates that prevent you from traveling backwards. Will going down that path take you to the next secret? Will it be an invisible wall? Will it take you to a one-way door that stop you from secret hunting? It's a gamble every time.

The only way to get back to secrets you missed it to replay part of a level, which is a chore, because the shooting isn't very good. The game features about 15 guns, which is 10 more than it needs, and each arena is an exercise of moving methodically from health pickup to health pickup, clearing out spammy enemies as they tick down your health.

There's effort and creativity on display here. I hope that the team involved keeps at it, learns from what worked and what didn't, and takes on another project of a more manageable scope.

Early Access Review
It's Vampire Survivors + Hades + Diablo. From Vampire Survivors you get the bullet heaven autoshooting and XP gathering. From Hades you get the gods and their choices of buffs. From Diablo you get the loot and the art. None of the concepts are original, but they all fit together nicely, and the quality of execution makes it great.
