You got a point, Mister... Wasteland 1 was the first RPG in a post-apocalyptic setting, but this was the first one with a real interactive narrative...

The GOG version can run on modern OS without problems... the Steam version won't guarantee that... it was a miracle for me that i could run it in Windows XP only with a few minor issues...
the first Wasteland was the first game to start it all, the First Fallout is just more well know.
but yes Fallout by far is one of the best games even today!!
You could use a melee weapon or punch the enemy on the head with the accuracy mode and it may result in a critical hit, knocking it out/stunning it and letting the enemy at your mercy for a finishing blow or for fleeing the area... of course, this depends of how good your character is for using melee weapons or unarmed combat...
