very atmospheric, but never sticks a single scare. chapter 2 is needlessly padded.

Look, I get it, Aigis was supposed to be a faithful remake of The Answer. But I genuinely think the team missed a chance to reimagine what The Answer would look like in 2024 because holy crap, "More Tartarus" does not hold up. I played on Heartless and, well, 1.5 hours of grinding followed by a small cutscene for each character of the team is just terrible pacing.

If The Answer was meant to be a combat challenge DLC, then it has failed miserably in that regard. I didn't face any difficulty until the Monad Chambers, and I'm playing on Heartless. What Atlus could have done was really trim down the fat of The Answer and make it entirely challenge-driven.

- Give Aigis access to the whole compendium. Only allow Heartless on a Merciless complete, of course.
- Instead of long Tartarus segments, have the Monad Chamber challenges separate the cutscenes.

This would lead to a much snappier storytelling pace, while also delivering the challenge DLC content for players. The Answer is so damn repetitive, it really sucks that the plot only gets moving on literally the last dungeon of the game. There's no reason it has to be this way other than faithfulness to the source material.

Does the classic hold up?

Kind of! If you ignore the boat section which sees it necessary to routinely rob control of the camera from you, inducing nausea and motion sickness so uncharacteristic of Valve... the rest of the game actually holds up very well, with varying set pieces that challenge the player in ways that games in 2023 are often afraid to.
