Does it make me a bad fan to suggest my friends DON'T play this? Not because of any particular failure on the games or developers part. But because I worry for their health and social well-being.

Epic required sign in has been removed.
EOS is still there, but that's just back-end BS a lot of other titles use for MP.

Time to kill God again.

UFO 50 is both a brilliant collection of games from an alternate reality and an incredible love letter to genuinely amazing cult hits from the 8 and 16 bit eras.

If you have historical context for what's being shown in this collection, it makes it even more charming AND enjoyable.
Amazing homages and takes on titles like Metal Storm, Wind Jammers, Star Tropics, Sweet Home, River City Ransom, Space Harrier, Kirby Dream Course etc etc etc the list goes on and on.
These nods and inspirations are FAR from rips offs tho as they are clearly not only inspired by their sources but have inspired new and refined mechanics. Some even being completely different takes on the same idea mashed together with new genres creating something familiar, yet entirely new at the same time.

This is a collection of devs and designers flexing both their history and knowledge of game design and giving us something from another timeline crafted with love and skill.

It's Dead Rising with a fresh coat of paint. Minor QOL changes only serve to make the game play better. RE Engine being built off MT Frameworks allows for it to literally be Dead Rising 1:1.
I love to see it.

Early Access Review
Boosting with a Rec for now.
It's early, there's only a couple of modes but they are heckin fun and insane.
It's total carnage and takes me back to Twisted Metal and Strike Vector.

Hold onto your butts, this is a long and honest one.
Way to long, didn't read: It's cool and doing interesting things. Extremely fun and engaging when the assaults begin. However, it suffers from extreme grind, no regard for a players time and lacks some serious QOL options.

Positives!
Genuinely unique in its blend of gameplay. The shooting feels great, which might naturally be due to UE5 being geared for FPS games. The Gear and gun systems are engaging and fun. collecting abilities, atattchments and what not is fun and really makes a weapon stand out as your own and suited to whatever situation you need it for.

The Base building feels rewarding. Gathering matts to create something from nothing feels again, really rewarding. You find yourself getting creative with structures, layouts, management and even automation. You also are free to build how ever many outposts you'd like as anything you've built or purchased is in your building inventory forever.

Having to set up, change and command outpost guns, devices etc on the fly is super engaging in higher difficulties. To hot swap between being on the ground in a mech fighting waves to suddenly in a command, birds eye view and commanding guns to fire on specific targets, placing new guns and then swapping right back into FPS combat is super fun in practice despite how overwhelming it may seem at first.

Negatives:
Game does not respect your time. Grind for matts is way too much for what you need in order to build effectively and in fun ways. If I didn't work from home and could play this passively by leaving it open and doing something for 30 minutes at a time randomly, I would have dropped it many MANY hours short of my current play time. While there is value in feeling like you've earned and built something for yourself, it shouldn't however take 10s of hours to feel like you're finally starting to get there, only to see more grinding on the horizon.
To drive the point further home, some have openly admitted to just cheating end game materials into their saves due to the horrid grind and countless attempts to find items.

Having research being time based seems okay on paper but in practice, you'll find that you'll need to go on tours and "speed run" them in order to get 40-50 days completed. What this means is that any time you go to a new area during a "tour", it counts as a day. So you'll either need to go to 50 areas and loot by hand or "speed run" it by automatically looting those areas and moving to the next, eventually still needing to stop along the way to maybe top up power reserves with random garbage matts. This becomes brain dead looping that serves no other purpose than speeding up time and maybe getting a few items along the way while still taking forever.

Voice acting and no options. While at first, hilarious for the wrong reasons, voices eventually become grating and insufferable. Having to hear the same. exact. poorly. acted. line. over. and. over. and. over. again... Is so unbelievably annoying eventually that I've actually just started playing it with the sound off for the entire game as there's NO option to toggle or tune NPC dialog.
And believe me, these characters LOVE to hear themselves talk. Often directly over each other with multiple alerts. "Leaving X boost field Entering X boost field Leaving X boo-THE ENEMY HAS SPOTTED YOU-Boost fie- PURSUERS INCOMING-aving X boost entering X boos leaving x boost field."

Optimization. As of July 14th the optimization leaves a LOT to be desired. Funny enough, letting Nvidia set it up for you is the best option as turning things *down* often has negative effects.
Regardless, the game struggles a LOT at times and doesn't look that great to boot.

General Jank.
Enemies spawning inside of outpost.
Player slipping on simple slopes.
AI having the programming of a grape fruit with legs.
Tree *leaves* blocking shots.
Cannons continually attempt to shoot things behind rocks and trees.

Random complaints:
Idk who is doing the blueprint/code work in UE5 for you guys but you need to teach them how to change meshes and calculate player velocity on moving platforms. Until you figure that out, I'm just going to *not ever* bother with that stupid ore tower event.

Map effects like blizzards are genuinely pointless and do nothing but slow you down and annoy you. Again, wasting your time.

Make no mistake. It's garbage.
But like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ midnight McBurger, you kinda can't help but enjoy it when you got it.
It's just a shameless amalgam of so many things thrown into a mobile game blender and feels like a cheap fan game project circa 2009 made in Gold Source with a boat load of Gamebanna skin mods thrown into the files.

It's charming in a way that's hard to describe but it's not a complement to say that at all.
If you find enjoyment out of really REALLY bad, low budget movies that are mimicking another IP like Vampire Assassin, you know exactly what I mean when I draw the same through line to this.
