Monster Hunter: World was my first MH game, followed by eager purchases of MHGU and Rise (I couldn't get enough, man!). As someone who entered the series through this game, I have to say that if you have any interest in trying out Monster Hunter, this is 100% the game to do it with. It has elements of classic Monster Hunter while also providing plenty of QoL improvements and ease of access for those unfamiliar with some mechanics.

This is a VERY popular game for VERY good reason, but I won't praise it entirely. Like every game, MHW has various flaws. Unskippable cutscenes and janky multiplayer (at least in regards to story quests) are two very common gripes people have with World, especially considering that MH itself started off as a multiplayer-driven game series. However, as annoying as these things are, I find them easy to overlook in the grand scheme of things.

Monster Hunter is by no means an easy game; it won't give you everything on a silver platter. As simple as 'Eat, Hunt, Carve, Craft, Repeat' seems, you will have to work for things more often than not. However, as a casual gamer myself, I don't find that this game is Dark Souls levels of difficult, nor do I find it as much of a time sink as some people like to say it is. Monster patterns are fairly simple for a lot of the game, unless you plan on tackling some of the end-game Iceborne content, which I have heard is fairly difficult (I admit I haven't bothered with endgame yet personally). It's not 2+2=4 but it won't take you a century to tackle a monster if you use your brain. As far as time, you could probably do a hunt or two per night and make decent headway; I believe games should always be enjoyed in your own time, and MH won't take too much away from you unless you let it. Overall, if you're used to super easy video games or a bit of an entitled/impatient gamer, this game is either very good or very bad for you. About 50/50 depending on the kind of person you are.

I very deeply enjoy Monster Hunter World, and I recommend it to any casual enjoyer of disrupting & decimating local wildlife populations. It's worth a shot for the price. This may very well be your entry point into a wonderful life of senseless killing and monster-riding goodness... if you're patient with it.
