The ages thing was weird, interesting idea i think that is executing in one of the most mid ways
you basically lose half of ur ♥♥♥♥ kind of, altho its worth mentioning that half of ur units do just get packed into a general or admiral, but ur definitely still losing stuff, i swear i kept having to convert towns into cities, etc...

That being said, i enjoyed my first game to its completion, is this than 6? no i dont think so, and if your new to the civ franchise and are wanting one to jump balls deep into, this might not be the one, u should probably go check out civ 6, but if youve been playing civ for a while like me, then i think its worth running a few games and really get a feel for the new mechanics, bc some of them are awesome, like the generals and admirals and ♥♥♥♥, and the way the leaders and civs work is different but not bad neccesarily, honestly my biggest complaint is just how exactly they did the age system, id feel better about if i didnt feel like i was getting semi-map wiped every age.

All in all, for a civ fan, id say its worth the play
as a new player, id steer clear
as a casual 4x player that just wants a good 4x game, go play almost anything else

So a lot of the stuff people say about the performance is more or less true. If you dont have that great of a computer, its prolly not worth it to grab it. THat being said, my computer is far from the best (3060, 12th gen i7, 32 RAM) im able to up the graphics a bit more then the recommended, and get a good minimum 60 FPS. It definitely feels a tad easier then previous entries, which has its ups, and downs. It makes the beginning of the game more accescible, but also leaves the more skilled players yearning. I havent completed the story yet, but i will say that once u get to higher ranked monsters, you definitely feel the challenge increase. Still not quite as challenging as the previous entries. All in all, the game is definitely a solid entry, I love it, and i like the more openness of the game. When i complete more of the game ill come back and edit the review

First impressions: Combat feels well enough, great customization, characters are likable enough for the most part. Story seems strange but in a way that i sense the attitude or tone will change drastically the closer to the mana tree the party gets. Excited for the adventure

Overall so far, 5 hours in, it feels more relaxed and 'casual' then most other JRPG's, and is something i enjoy playing on my steam deck while laying in bed or sitting on the couch

my only complaint is loot. However i heard that theyre working on fixing loot drops.

Once again, what diablo 3 and 4 should've been, excellent ARPG, with a stark increase in difficulty

first impressions:
modernized runescape-esque feel, with a nice art direction, interesting and fresh exploration system, and satisfying progression. So far, feeling as if this might take the cake as my go to sandbox MMORPG

Im barely past the prologue, so like many of my other recent reviews, this one will be a first impressions, and imma keep this one pretty short and sweet.

Has a lot of what you love about atlus, while switching up the formula enough to feel fresh. I personally prefer fantasy settings, so i actually quite like the tone more than the likes of Megami Tensei and Persona. Can't wait to find the time to finish this bad boy out, and connect with the characters and story. definitely recommend and giving it a try.

I am now 30 hours in, so heres what i have to say now
its won numerous awards this year, so i feel like it goes without saying

but the real world lessons, messages, are done so masterfully, that it doesnt really force you to pull any conclusions, over the course of the story u start to draw parallels to your own life and misfortunes, and learn from it. And 30 hours in, after you feel like youve done a bulk of its content, the game opens up more, as if all 30 hours were some masterful tutorial, with enough of a mix of combat, and typical atlus "life activities", it feels more like an RPG than persona, but feels just as impactful story and writing wise. And the monsters and creatures are masterfully made and desgined, with phenominal lovable characters as well

I'm four hours in, so this is more of a first impressions.
So I'm well aware of the headlines, and while not entirely unfounded, I'll lay down my bias's, i like action combat, and more traditional crpg turn based mumbo jumbo pretty much equally, however, i was never a huge dragon age fan, i barely played origins, never touched 2, and played a bit of inquisition,

that being said, Veilguard has pretty graphics, regardless of how you think about the more cartoonish, or stylized character designed, and for my computer, which isnt really high end but certainly isnt low end, runs pretty well on ultra, with no noticable stutters, freezing, or frame drops. The combat is quite fluid, and attacks feel good, and impactful, and the skill trees look indepth enough for what the game is. The combat is no where near the difficulty of a souls game but also isnt a pushover, with the difficulty above "normal" youd have to think, you cant just mindlessly swing and dodge. The parry mechanic feels nice and isnt too hard.
all in all, the combat, visuals, and performance is a win in my book. I like it.

Now the story,
Im not going to spoil anything specific, im not even that far in yet anyway, but ill say that what youve read about the crappy dialogue and cheesy characters is pretty accurate, as well as your dialogue options doing pretty much ♥♥♥♥ all, and while it doesnt really bother me or ruin my experience i should say, i can see where a tradition bioware fan would be pretty dissapointed, especially if your on that high of some more recent successful RPG's like Baulders gate 3. Id say dont get the game for the story alone, but the combined experience, and accept the dialogue and characters for what they are.

so far, id recommend it. Its kind of dissapointing to see bioware's "return" be this lack luster, its not bad by any means, in fact I'd say this is a pretty solid action rpg game, with some solid hack n slash gameplay, but it does feel very safe, and i feel like the genius of Bioware is more of a thing of the past, and this game feels like theyre trying to more slowly creep their way back into the mainstream, their last 2 games were huge disasters, so it does explain WHY they wanted to play it safe, doesnt make it any less disapointing though.

it not being $70 is also a huge plus

im only about 7ish hours into my first play through, but i wanted to drop some initial impressions

story: so far, its about as youd expect, sporting a more goofy casual narrative than a super serious narrative, that being said, i found myself growing to like 1 character in particular, and all the characters ive met so far are actually quite entertaining, even if almost all of them fit into some kind of generic trope youd see in a generic anime. i like it, lets the game focus on some other things...

visuals: despite being very obviously retro inspired, it sports some unqiue and obviously modern technology to make the lighting and animations look very not retro, from flowing hair, to dynamic lighting, its actually awesome. Its a nice mesh of the past and the present. I think the visuals is one of the games 2 biggest stregnth so far

Combat: the combat is way more involved than your generic turn based JRPG. With blocking, and double attacking, wholy depending on pressing the space bar at the right time, which means learning certain enemies animations so you know when to press it, as well as certain abilities have some kind of input during the cast and during the actual attack itself to do more damage or do something unique. Like bouncing Valere's moonerang between targets, and when you manage to hit a big number bc you did a whole more than just press an attack button, you definitely feel pretty accomplished just in that one turn.

There is a lot more to this game, but only being 7 hours in, i think imma hold back on discussing most of it. As is, probably one of my favourite non-japanese jrp's (ironic statement i know). Truly a gem
