If you're expecting the same Metal Gear Solid style of game, this is not your game. Rising has some well known characters from the Solid franchise, but story and mechanic-wise is totally different from the originals. It's a new game, with old character, basically. You can choose to by-pass soldier in a somewhat stealth mode, or just hack and slash everything... though I believe this game was made to please people who want to hack and slash everything with Raiden's sword, ninja-style. The story kind of lacks, but it certainly pleases people who want to just have fun with a game, instead of thinking too much about it and just slice watermellons.
Overall it's a nice game, just don't expect it to be a normal Metal Gear or you'll be disappointed.
