Very expansive, but missing an overal purpose. Becomes repetitive about halfway through year 2 and drags on for another 30-40 hours quick. Enjoyable if you want a game to unwind with and do some simple repetitive stuff.

I just enjoyed a game like Terraria a bit better.

The combat is definitely the weakest part of this game and I didn't even attempt the skull cavern more than a few times. It might have been latency issues but the hit detection was bad and enemies kept clipping through you, eventhough you hit them on time.

5/10, average. I'll give it a recommendation for the amount of effort put into the game, but it's rought around the edges. Overrated for sure.

I really tried to like this game, I really did. It's so ambitious and you can tell the developers put a lot of heart and soul into it. But it wasn't, and still isn't ready for prime time. The bugs at first can be ignored but at some point they start to mount up and you just quit the game out of frustration, at least this happened in my case. The game is supposed to be an immersive experience, and it manages the pull it off at times. But when you have to reload and redo a quest ad nauseam because it keeps bugging out and giving you jailtime, you eventually just give up after 70 hours of dealing with it.

I will revisit the game in a year and see if I can hopefully upgrade the Negative Recommendation into a Positive one. For now, just buy Deus Ex MD or something.

They also really need to rework the Geometry pipeline of this game. It's a technical mess that can be seen pulling 23K drawcalls in major cities. Well over what DX11 can handle for current CPU's and in the forseeable future. Unsurprisingly, it runs poorly in the major cities.

Competent game on consoles, no doubt. But the PC port is extremely lazy and poorly implemented. You have to play this with a controller like on console, because no effort was put into making the transition to mouse and keyboard viable. There's a heavy acceleration put in place to make functional use of the clumsy and inprecise controllers, but this translated horribly when using the precision of a mouse. Turning helicopters, controlling the camera when driving, nothing works properly with mouse and keyboard and if feels like you're struggling with the controls more than with the game. The camera also for some reason goes out-of-control vertically for some reason so you can't see what's in front of you and you have the same acceleration problems. For example, when trying to rotate the chopper you can't swipe, you have to slowly drag your mouse at a steady pace to not trigger the de-acceleration in place to normally negate for heavy stick waggling.

Since this is put onto the Steam storepage with NO indication that the game requires a gamepad to be played properly, i'm going to downvote this as a warning. You NEED a gamepad for this to enjoy it.

Ok game with controller, terrible with mouse and keyboard. Be warned.

***EDIT:

ok upon finishing i'm going to retract it a bit. It's obvious the game has a "gameplay loop", which is fun at first but as the game progresses and the difficulty ramps up the game starts to fall apart. Groups of enemies that spawn outside of your perhiperal vision, meaning at some points you get overwhelmed and have to evacuate the scene. Plus it gets very repetitive, the story is incredibly cliché and extremely short. Which is why the game forces you to grind...i mean "liberate" towns in between missions as barriers. The game is also hastily wrapped up and not given a satisfactory ending. It also relies on "escort" or protection missions far too often, which only further emphasises the weak AI in the game and makes the missions more frustrating than fun, having to babysit and struggle to keep the idiots from dying.

It is also buggy, especially when grapling onto vehicles you sometimes just bounce off (yes that includes vehicles without bavarium shields). And getting on top of buildings you grappled onto sometimes causes you to just fall off. Enemy AI, as I mentioned, is extremely dumb. You constantly get Chaos messages you destroyed vehicles off camera because the AI is too dumb to not drive off ledges, or crash helicopters/planes into the dirt.

Also, it makes a capital offense in my opinion, and that is breaking all the rules of the game you've been relying on in extensive gameplay looped playing sessions. It's a vehicle battle that boils down to pillarhumping and breaking cover when the shield is down. Instead of rewarding people that have been taking down those units by timing the jump and yanking the pilot out. Instead the game instantly bounces you off, basically meaning the developers threw away all rules and force you into a standard boss battle.

Competent game. The fighting is Arkham Asylum style and they didn't ♥♥♥♥ it up, it flows well and it's all decently telegraphed. Driving is also decent. Characters design is ok. It also runs excellent. I had to use fast-sync and a heavy gpu underclock to not get heavy input delay, an issue with this game because it runs a little too well. (200-300fps on my midrange system).

However this game does what AAA games do these days, and WB turned up to 11. I'd even go as far as to say it's worse than a Ubisoft game. It takes every oppertunity to waste your time as much as possible. Everything is an animation, everything takes time and you have to do it over, and over again.

It not great for extended play sessions, just something you play whenever you have a few hours to spend.

A shame, there's a good game hidden under all the excess filler.

Arkane Studio's has by far become one of my most favorite developers as of late. Their games are really well put together (apart from the issues I'll bring up), and reward exploration like not many games do these days. This is a very rewarding game, but also a tad frustrating at times if you want the non-lethal approach.

Positive Elements:
- Graphics and artstyle are really good. Every level is nicely detailed with some nice lighting effects, and I found no visual bugs.
- Rewards exploration greatly, even if you think you're breaking the level by going some place you think you're not supposed to go, it was actually probably designed that way and you will find loot there. Prey also does this really well.
- Extremely well-done visual story telling. Dishonored also did this really well. By exploring you will find small, hidden stories told by visuals mostly and well-placed items. This is something that reminded me a lot of Dark Souls, which was one of it's biggest strengths. It told little mini stories by having NPC's stand at specific locations, or place items at specific locations, combined with the description you'd get hints of what happened, without explicitly telling you. Eventhough Dishonored 2 put a tad more emphasis on exposition and documents this time, something I don't really like. It breaks up the gameflow to much for me.
- I played as Emily my first playthrough and I liked the story. It felt natural to this time have the empress prove her worth as an Empress. It had no "muh strong female who don't need no man" appeal at all, like so many writers force down your throat.
- You can kill NPC's. This might seem odd, but the fact that the developer lends you the freedom to make an arse of yourself, and construct the game in such a way to allow for it to happen and/or influence the ending is brilliant and I can't commend it enough. There's nothing more frustrating than your guns magically not working when you point at an NPC in other games. In fact, without spoiling, it might not always be the "bad" approach. This, too, is something which reminded me of Dark Souls, another game that allows for this.

Mediocre:
- The sometimes annoyingly trial-and-error approach to gameplay you have to endure if you want to get the stealth and non-lethal achievements. This is probably less so if you know the level layout and the enemy placement. But i've had so many savescumming take place to subdue a room of enemies when I was limited in powers.

Negative:
- The reason for the performance issues. The v-sync they opted to implement is very basic, and the predominant reason so many people have performance issues. It's a standard double-buffer v-sync that just drops framerate by half whenever you drop a single frame. Meaning for 60hz, you get 30-60-30-60 fps. Very jarring. Once I forced the graphics panel v-sync I actually had no issues playing through the entire game at a mostly locked 60fps with only shadows dropped to "high". If a frame did drop, i'd get a tear. Significantly less annoying (if infrequent) than a duplicate frame.
- Denuvo. This almost made me give the game a negative score. What was Bethesda thinking (not blaming Arkane for this) with the implementation of this DRM. It takes 2 minutes! for the game to launch and get passed the DRM stage. Unacceptable. But because this was probably forced upon the developers, I don't want to burn their game solely for that reason.

The game clearly has a lot of love and attention put into it. It's a shame people couldn't see past the performance issues with this one.

Conflicted, series has great potential but i'm going to have to downvote it i'm afraid. I'll keep it brief.

Good
+ Lots of different firearms, with noticably different gameplay.
+ Large maps with lots of hidden paths so you can ambush.
+ Gunplay feels mostly satisfying.
+ Game performance is good, even at high settings.

Mediocre
= Maps are large but there's no real reason they should be. A lot of the map is filler and almost feels like you're clearing trash in a WoW dungeon to get to the objectives.
= Voice acting isn't cringe levels of bad, but some of the accents are pretty bad of the subcharacters. (especially sofia, wtf, her accent goes from Russian to mediterranean in the same scentence)
= Story is pretty unengaging, it's more of a thin thread to connect all the maps.
= Graphics are ok but some annoyances stemming from the lack of options. Like not being able to remove the overly bright bloom effects. The game is also looks fairly blurry, I think they use some post-processing effects with ditherting that makes it look blurry.

Negative
- Bullet spread is ridiculous, even for old rifles. If you've ever fired these old milsurps you know they're not going to have a 10inch spread at freaking 25 yards. Hipfiring is pretty much pointless.
- Weapon damage, if you're not making headshots these enemies literally take a couple of thirty ought six rounds to eventually get the hint to stay down. When a thirty ought six hits you centre-mass without ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ body armor, you're not getting up!
- Enemy AI is very dense and wildly inconsistent. They go "huh" when you're about 5 feet away when in stealth, but when you've been spotted they can spot a pixel of your arse from 800 yards away. Not only that, but they don't use the map to hide from where the gunfire originates from, but they position themselves around the dead body.
- Difficulty does not come from clever AI, they just become increasingly bigger bulletsponges and they just mob you with numbers instead. Literally the laziest game design.
- The worst one: The custom difficulty settings, I mentioned the bulletspread, the achievement and scoring is based on the lowest setting. So you can play full authentic plus but because of the absolute memelevels of bulletspread set that to cadet, well it's all based on cadet now, not an average. Also, you can't turn off tags but keep mission markers, not even doodles on the map. It's either ALL markers, or none. Extremely frustrating since the maps are so huge and you run around like an idiot finding a piece of paper for a sidemission.
- Some of the DLC is extremely cheap. I got the digital deluxe version on the cheap, but especially the DLC characters are afterthoughts. They didn't even bother to add female gait, meshes or idle movement, it's just a shrunk mesh and she moves like a man, and stands like a man. Nor are they voice acted, so she'll still have the main prot. voice.
- The game doesn't explain how to properly hold for windage and elevation without assist. Tactical scopes don't seem to really work as intended.
- The hold-assist triangle is really buggy and can sometimes cause you to miss crucial shots.
- The game breaks down when you pull the trainingwheels off. The harder difficulties really overstresses the game and makes it painfully clear it was intended with all the markers and noob assists in mind. The enemy density is way too high to accomodate for the pretty poor AI and the assist mode is pretty much required to land decent hits, since the tactical scopes don't really seem to make sense.

Def. more gripes than positives. It really became a chore to finish it and I don't think i'm replaying it again.

The type of gem that makes you continue gaming and proves the point why gaming is a more immersive form of entertainment than movies or TV shows are. Lets the player fail, respects the player enough to allow it to make mistakes. Storytelling through the environment without sacrificing a decent story underneath. Barred only by it's admittedly lacklustre performance once you've inhabited the world for extended period. (even when making sure not to drop items all over the place and having a decent system).

I hope the developers continue to support it and especially try and get the batch/texturestreaming sorted for future prosperity and giving players a reason to revisit it later down the line. Because playing this game afterwards only makes it continuously run worse and worse until it becomes a slideshow even on decent rigs.

I can't wait to see what these developers have in stores for us next. But it's clear that people who want to play some fun and interesting games, but have given up hope in the AAA, have some things to look forward to.

Simply can't get used to the attack delay. It could be that the game is running v-synced at no doubt a massive overhead. But it takes a good .5 to 1 second for the game to respond. Given the game's brutal nature, it's not fun for me.

Incredibly tedious, dumbed down and extremely repetitive. The gunplay is solid enough but the way the game doesn't respect the player and overburdens him with just....STUFF. It gets boring too quickly and skipping the side content means not receiving any upgrades. And while it might add to difficulty, which this game could surely use, only being able to carry around 5 sniper rounds gets annoying fast.

Ubisoft doesn't seem to want to stop making the same game over and over again. So this is me just probably pissing in the wind. Alas.

Great little gem. And it's also nice to see an indie game doing well that isn't a retro pixelart game.

Some positive highlights:
- Fluent gameplay. Controls felt really responsive, not many moments spent struggling with the controls.*
- Character. Although not many lines of dialogue are spoken, hat girl's actions are very amusing and she's very likeable.
- Musical score. An excellently implemented dynamic soundtrack that alters from scene to scene and even within context.
- Graphics. Somewhat limited assets but played off well by the vibrant use of colors. The emphasis on the vibrancy and contrast means it will age as well as Wind Waker does.
- Pacing. The game is somewhat short but there is excellent pacing in the game. Aided by the fluent controls, you're never left idling around and the game is constantly in motion. Not a whole lot of padding and the collectibles are mini-challenges instead of a grind/bore.

Some negative bits:
- Graphics. I mentioned the limited assets, the polygon count isn't very high and the textures neither. It's played off mostly well but sometimes it felt a tad cheap.
- Charactermodel. The animation is done well enough, but it could have used a more dynamic facial model. It's a rather static and harsh facial expression that sometimes feels a little too lifeless. Contrast that to Link's face in Wind Waker, where he's constantly looking around and changing his expression.
- Camera. Some jumps, especially in the Windmill section and the Sunshine-esque platform area's felt like leaps of faith due to the camera. But also rope jumps. I've never been a fan of those in 3D platformers because it's hard to judge a distance when you're aiming for a tiny rope.
- Engine. Not a big fan of the UE4 engine and it's framepacing and unexplained CPU-usage spikes.

Overal experience positive, had a great time with the game and will surely revisit it sometime in the future. The negative bits are just hopefully for improvement on the next attempt for Gears for Breakfast.

*although the tendency to stick to walls is sometimes a tad annoying.
