10/10 Larian knocked it out of the park. Any real review I could try to make would be a disservice to how flush with content this game is and not do justice to covering its myriad of features. If you're a fan of D&D, especially 5th edition, this shouldn't disappoint.

This performance actually got worse after the pre-release and it's even buggier than before.

It's actually missing most of the crafting functionality, several weapons advertised in videos, and somehow has overall less content than Vermintide 2 at launch.

At least the cash shop works!

I'll change my tune when I don't crash every other game so I can enjoy it for longer than 30 minutes at a time.

Logged on, couldn't make one of the golem people who look nothing like they do in the wiki art without some sort of admin approval. Decided to make a cat wildkin. Noticed I still had human ears next to the cat ears crudely stapled to my head like some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anime vtuber. Spawned in naked in a town square without a tail despite the preview screenshots clearly showing them having tails. Wandered around like an idiot and got my body turned into pudding at the hands of a giant monster.

10/10 experience. Probably gonna give it a moment and check back in later.

Latest patch at the time of this review destroyed my character inventories and from what I read they may not even be able to restore all my equipment. On top of all the random-ass Unreal 4 crashes, jank power balance as the world difficulty goes up, grossly imbalanced class skills, grating buzzing noises, and random stuttering?

Outriders belongs in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumpster.

It stinks. Everything this game originally was in the alpha is no more and has swerved off into a radically different direction of game design. The best I can describe this game now is a thin imitation of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's gameplay loop, except it punishes you in every way to try and explore, loot, and learn about the world by either taking away everything once you go to another region, or just not being a stimulating enough feature to warrant suffering through it to see the payoff.

It's Super Metroid if Super Metroid was also The Binding of Isaac.

Each playthrough is wildly different and may force you to adapt your style of play accordingly based on what equipment you find, environments you enter, and monsters you encounter. Trial and error are part of the game as you learn the nature of enemies, bosses, and traps. Dying is not the end as new items and mechanics are unlocked through your prior progress, making the next attempt possibly more manageable. The art and music direction are pretty good compared to other games that try too hard to emulate faux-retro styles and miss the mark.

It even features couch co-op, although I'd personally have liked something for online play too.

For its value and replayability, It's definitely worth it. I hope future updates expand its lifespan.
