Top tier game in its genre, just play it, it's well worth its full price.

Personal GOTY, a great Roguelike with good replayability, incredible design and rather unique concept that is very well executed, the game is challenging without requiring artificial difficulty ( a rarity these days ) and every playable character is endearing and useable ( Orion buff tho I beg ). This is honestly such a beautiful game and you shouldn't hesitate on buying it even if you are not big on roguelikes, give it a try and you will 100% realize why it's sitting on so many positive reviews.

In conclusion this is a 10/10 and I'm sad I didn't hear about its release earlier, the devs obviously poured an incredible amount of love in this project and I will closely keep on eye on what they decide to do next, amazing game.

I rarely write reviews, much less negative ones, I've been playing Soulslike for a decade now and I've seen countless game trying to be challenging, very often this result in a frustrating experience that rarely feels rewarding like From Software does it.

Now where does that put Lies of P ? Well the game is excellent for the first three areas, sure there is barely a challenge during exploration but the areas themselves are very pleasing to look at, the game is very optimized which has become a rarity these days.

However, past that zone the game suddenly turns to one of the most superficial soulslike I've ever played and you realise that early on was just lightning in a bottle, the areas become tedious to explore, not hard, tedious as they go the DS2 pre Sotfs way: Dumping twenty billion of things on top of your ass at once. You then finish that tedious process and think "At least the bosses and elites were enjoyable!" Well sucks to be you from now on every boss has two phases with full HP bar for each, AOE spam and various move that feel cheap.

All in all Lies of P wears its name perfectly because it will lie to your face about being good for a while until it drops the facade and you realise you were in fact playing a middle schooler's attempt at designing a challenging Soulslike that cost 60 bucks.

Edit after picking it up again out of spite: It doesn't get better. It gets worse in fact.

Berseria gave a new breath of fresh air to the serie, Arise pushed it even further.

This is a HUGE Tales Of game that doesn't play exactly like a Tales Of but keeps the core of it, it's new, incredibly fun and the story is good, while character dynamics aren't on par with Berseria, it was a high bar to begin with and they still feel like a cohesive team with a rather human feel.

The humour isn't the same as well, being a bit more dry and subtle, which is not to everyone's liking but I prefer it over the LMAO WACKY TACKY type that you could find in previous titles.

Onto the harsh truth: Don't listen to scrubs, yes, the bosses are hard but you don't need DLCs to boost xp, gald or get access to super op broken arte, the arte locked behind the DLCs are going to leave your set very early, much like cosmetic/pre-order weapons in other JRPG and the rest slightly shortens the grind.
You WILL need to think before fighting bosses and equip adequate accessories, you will have to chug items in Hard, but... It's Hard mode what do you expect ? As for Normal/Story, they are a slight challenge for casuals but nothing unbeatable.

I recommend this game but only under specific conditions:
-Seer isn't in the game
-It's not arenas
-The map isn't Olympus
-The server's working properly
-None of your squadmate is a Wraith
-You loaded with all squadmates in SoloQ
-You didn't get 18th partied
-The matchmaking worked properly
-You found a real weapon before you found your 15th P2020

If all of those conditions are respected you can bet you will have the best 15 minutes of your life!
