I used to love this game. No, I used to LOVE this game.

I first bought and played Overwatch back in the closed beta of 2015. It was a simpler time. The game was amazing, easily the GOTY in 2016. The events were new and fresh. The Junkenstein PvE mode was so much fun as Witch Mercy broke the internet. Uprising came and everyone ADORED it. Blizz said they hear us and hinted at a real PvE mode.

Jump cut years later, 2019. Through ups and downs I still loved this game. Overwatch 2 is announced WITH the PvE mode we were teased with 2 years earlier. It was happening, Blizz listened! But they needed time. An understandable if frustrating situation. Overwatch development went dark, the game stagnated, people got mad, friends uninstalled, I defended. "No guys, trust me, it's coming. Overwatch 2 is going to be so cool!" The big PvE expansion we were hoping for! Game is still fun, I can wait!

Jump cut again, Overwatch 2 drops in 2022. No PvE. Blizzard says that it's coming. So we wait. OW2 is refreshing and fun! New mode! New maps! 2CP is cut. Even from quickplay? No more lootboxes! Skins cost $25 a pop now? A ranked rework! Top 500 players suck in silver? Lots of balance updates! Is this all they've been working on? No! Overwatch 2 is the PvE portion! This is just the multiplayer side! Just wait and see!

Jump a few months. An announcement is made. "Overwatch 2 PvE Massively Scaled Back." What? "Introducing Invasion! 3 Archives style missions!" Huh? "That you have to pay for!" Wait...

I USED to love this game. Hell, I have almost 2500 hours in it. It's my most played game... ever! What was that wait for? Is this it? We waited years for this? This is exactly what we used to get for free back in the archives event? Skins used to be free. Yeah lootboxes sucked and were predatory as ♥♥♥♥. But you could earn them for free. Archives missions used to be free. Now you have to pay for them. I would have been okay with paying for the PvE expansion we were supposed to get.. 3 skins today costs as much as the whole f***ing game did in 2015.

TL;DR: Overwatch 2 is a scam. They killed Overwatch and broke their promises to us and all we got was a horrendous monetization model. Overwatch at it's core is a good game. I still enjoy it. But knowing what could have been and what should have been. Knowing that Bobby Kotick's greasy money grubbing hands smeared themselves all over it. I cannot recommend this game. Even with how much I used to love this game.
