Played the demo, loved it, bought this on day 1. I assumed the entire game would be like the demo. Turns out the entire game changes into a different game. Nothing in the screenshots advertising the game or the demo showed that it would radically change. Even the logo of the game on the store page is from the first part of the game. I beat the game and it was interesting, but I was pretty disappointed. I expected the game to be... like the advertisements. Its primarily an arg/meta-story game and I expected it to be more focused on being a card battler horror roguelite (like the first 3 tags for the game are)

spoilers below

The start of the game is just like the demo/screenshots/trailer. Youre in a haunted cabin and are forced into playing a card game with some creepy thing. You sacrifice animals to summon cards and progress forward on a branching map. Eventually, you can stand up from the game and explore the haunted cabin. In the cabin you can solve puzzles to find/unlock new cards, find new items, and progress the story forward (both the in game story of dealing with the creepy guy in the cabin and the meta-story of a real world guy discovering the game on a floppy disk). I loved this section of the game. Everything after this was meh

After beating the "final" boss and progressing the meta-story along, the entire game changes. Its no longer a spooky 3d card building roguelite in a haunted cabin in the woods, it turns into a 2d deck building pixel rpg. Its not even a roguelike anymore (beyond opening rng card packs, I guess). If you die you lose nothing, theres no random perks, theres 1 map (overworld+detailed towns, in true pixel rpg fashion), theres no random enemies.

After beating that section, the game goes back into 3d but is now scifi themed. You no longer sacrifice animals and rip out your own teeth, you shoot robots with guns. It still has a sort of rpg map with fast travel. Its still not really a roguelite. If you die you lose money and get sent back to a checkpoint so you can progress through the same map with the same enemies to get your money back. You explore a scifi cabin to unlock cards/items/story, but its really not as spooky as the weird cabin from the first part of the game.

I went into this expecting slay the spire + horror + a story. If youre like me, youll be disappointed. The focus of the game is the story, not the card game underneath
