Corn Kidz 64 nails the vibe of N64 platformers like Super Mario, Banjo, and Conker without feeling like a retread of those ideas. Less discerning gamers might balk at its short length, but you spend a lot of time in each level instead of quickly clearing each stage and moving on to the next. This encourages exploration, interacting with the characters, and soaking in the atmosphere. The one "main" level is deceptively big, with colorful autumn hues, unique enemies, and excellent music. The developer did a great job of varying the gameplay with minigames and different platforming challenges.

The controls are good, although I didn't find the movement quite as polished as A Hat in Time. But that's more a testament to how great that game is rather than Corn Kidz's mechanics feeling off. After a couple hours, things clicked for me, and I was wall jumping and headbutting with ease.

I think I enjoyed the secrets in this game the most. The average person can beat the game in 6-8 hours, but going the extra mile and scouring the game worlds revealed another unlockable, and then another, and then another. The difficulty ramps up at this point, but if you rise to the challenge, this little game is one of the best platforming experiences I've ever had.
