EA made a lot of promises and keeps turning around and breaking them. As they always do.

Finished Dragon Age: Veilguard today. 60ish hours to 100% for me.

First 4-5 hours are pretty ♥♥♥♥. Bad writing. They assume you remember a lot from Inquisition a decade ago and just press on with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ writing.

After that, you settle in and the worldbuilding that was absent comes back in a big way. Choices you make are largely non-impactful except for a few of them and it's clear they are setting a pretty narrow canon for the next entry in the series.

Combat is fast paced. Faster than any previous game. I prefer the older games in this regard, but once you get into the rhythm it's not bad. The parry timers are fickle and unforgiving as ♥♥♥♥ and the indicator for it baits you into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Hate that. Like that you can change your build on the fly but I didn't do it much. You only get stuck with your starting class. Your companions are practically useless except as spells with cooldowns. They pretty much only exist to either set up or "detonate" a set up. Definitely the twitchy RPG combat we see nowadays as opposed the more classic RPG combat.

For all the negative reviews about how woke it is, I'd say it's secretly the least woke game I've ever played. You can completely go the route of "I'm only working with you because HR said so" by choosing the standoffish responses only, not doing the optional side quests for your teammates and get literally everyone you don't like killed at the end of the game.

There's some pretty big story developments and they move the bar forward in VERY big apocalyptic ways. Maybe too big. A bit unbelievably big for the established lore IMO, but still engaging and the companions while initially are kinda ♥♥♥♥, really do grow and progress into very fun and likeable people.

I'd put it in 2nd place for the series. Origins was a masterpiece, 2 was ♥♥♥♥, Inquisition was meh and Veilguard was good. It cleared some low bars to make it to 2nd place.

Game was fantastic but you're going to ram nerfs down our throat on an already grindy coop? No thanks.

Fantastic game. Boss fights are difficult, but you have to adapt your mech and tactics. Go for the stagger with impact weapons then dump hate on the health bar.

If you wanna just annihilate everything with no challenge, well there are segments where that happens, but know that there will be challenges that will test you. If that ain't your jam, move along.

Fantastic game. If you loved the first one, this one is just an improvement in every way.

Except that the damn thing keeps crashing, especially on cutscenes. Even with updated drivers, no background programs, etc.

The first level just honks performance-wise. Expect 30fps no matter what you do. Then you make it to the next planet, and you get excited because you can crank your settings with no fps drop. Hell yeah. Time to game. Until you hit a cutscene. Boom. Crash.

Fine, I'll crank down the settings. Boom. Crash.

Absolute trash. I'd say EA should be embarrassed but we all know they have no shame. And you know what? I could even handle the crashing if all my damn progress wasn't tied to fixed savepoints. It's really just a race between savepoints between crashes. Make sure you meditate before any point you think there might be a cutscene.

Dang. This is fun. Think Beat Saber but with weapons.

Not that many levels currently, but they are fun and feel good to replay. I powered through the easy campaign (because I suck at Beat Saber and that translates here) very fast, but felt satisfied. This isn't about amount of content as much as it is replayability and I can see myself firing this up at least every other day to keep me less sedentary.

I am playing via Virtual Desktop on a Quest 1 and the graphics are top tier compared to other games in this setup.

Maybe this is because I don't have rhythm, but some of the attacks don't seem to match the beat perfectly. Might be latency. Not sure.

The Beatmap editor hasn't dropped yet, but this kind of tool at launch to allow infinite replayability is just fantastic.

My only current gripe is it's very picky on where you are centered. The game will autopause if you go out of it's zone and it's pretty easy to do. Maybe I'm over-dodging the attacks and obstacles. I tend to have a flair for the dramatic in my VR movements.

The voice acting is very forced and cheesy (intentional?) but there's thankfully very little of it.

Fun game! Might be on a lot of "Top VR Games" lists soon.

This game sucked farts out of a fart hose then blew them right in your face. The only way it was mildly playable was if you had a friend to play with that could make a game as craptacular as this one slightly bearable.

I hope Gearbox took some hard lessons from this. It's been years since I paid actual currency for this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I still am resentful of getting absolutely robbed. Eat my ass, Gearbox.
