This review is for the definitive edition specifically. I had horrific stuttering that made this edition unplayable. I spent hours trying to troubleshoot, from compatibility mode, to forcing D3D9, to setting CPU affinity, to turning off G-sync, to limiting my monitor to 60 Hz, to increasing CPU priority. I have a beefy computer with 12600K CPU and 3070 Ti GPU so it's obviously not a lack of computing power, and the standard version runs fine. Luckily I bought Ori forever ago and was able to play the standard edition, but if you're considering buying this, don't! Try another version, maybe a console version would run better. Good luck!

Not my cup of tea. If you like games that respect your time and don't require you to replay portions over and over again until you can do them perfectly and/or to grind quite tediously until you're overpowered, you are probably like me and won't enjoy this game. If however, you embrace a challenge and don't get bored playing games multiple times and/or if you're a speedrunner, this is a unique experience that you'll probably enjoy a lot.

Given that this is a universally acclaimed game lauded for its atmosphere and storytelling, I'll keep this short and sweet. Amnesia invokes a sense of urgency by giving you puzzles to solve(read 'searching a room in bad light until you find the item the developers wanted you to find') while sending monsters after you, none of which you're allowed to fight. Unfortunately I just tend not to like the juxtaposition of limited resources, busy work, and what amounts to being timed to complete tasks. Thankfully if you run woefully low on resources, the game autosaves for you, so you don't have to bother with that pesky "light" stuff, and you get to run around in the dark like a true man.

As someone else mentioned, it also tends to be very linear. This would bother me a lot less if the pace were fast, like Half-Life 2 or Alan Wake, both of which are extremely linear. The difference for me is that neither HL2 or Alan Wake feature 'waiting' as a game mechanic.

All in all great game, I just can't recommend it personally as I didn't enjoy it.
