Early Access Review
Don't buy this (right now, at least).

- Requires making an account for... some reason? I guess?
- No lobby system. When a game is over, you are kicked all the way back to the main menu and then have to navigate to the PLAY tab, refresh the game list until something shows up (which takes like four tries), join the game, wait for it to load the same room you're already standing in, walk over to the scoreboard, choose your team, hit "ready" and then wait an undetermined amount of time for everyone else to be ready after every single game. I realize this is an Early Access title but you'd think that a functioning lobby system would be one of the essential features to have in the first purchaseable build of a multiplayer shooter.
- Everybody has the exact same player model, friend and foe alike.
- Your initial options for primary weapons are an MP5 or a UMP, and that's it. Basic rifles cost upwards of $2,000, yet you only get something like $50 for winning a game. Considering how long it takes to get into each game, it's not worth the effort. There is reportedly a patch coming to increase the amount of money you win, but the lack of a functioning lobby system will still make that grind unbearable.
- No movement speed reduction while aiming. This means that people with rifle stocks can run around at full speed with great aim like it's Q3A or something.
- Desktop mirroring is only the left eye which sucks for streaming because viewers can't see the sights/optics when you're aiming a gun.
- Does not use SteamVR SDK, meaning you can't use things like OVRDrop to get Twitch chat on your wrist or use a superior desktop mirroring solution like SteamVR's built-in mirroring or the OpenVRInputPlugin for OBS.
- No exit button (that I could see), and you can't close the game via the SteamVR menu because like I said, it doesn't use SteamVR.
- Most of the options don't do anything (on Rift, at least) and they also don't stick when you hit "Apply"
- This may be a bug, but the games I was actually able to join were MAYBE five minutes long.
- A dev showed up in one lobby and already had all the best gear less than an hour after the game was released. This one kind of makes sense but come on, man.
- No proximity voice chat. You hear your entire team talking as if you were in a Discord or Teamspeak server with them.

All this being said, I will keep an eye on the development of this game. For the moment, however, I recommend you take your $10 and put it toward War Dust, Onward, Pavlov, Contractors, or Stand Out.
