I guess she ran out of bubble gum or never even had it as there is a lot of beatings and taking names but morale improves at least.

More than a year has now passed since i reached some level of a 'no back log' state here in Steam and it has been great although i must admit the downfall of gaming houses big and medium sized has been spectacular and not necessarily a positive thing to witness. As a direct effect of that the pressure to add new games to a new back log is non-existent. It is amazing considering how much pressure there was just some years ago (cough, like 4+ years now). Old games has had a resurgence and not just retro. Turns out old stuff really used to be good and i have this far both played myself and seen many videos listing 'games worth revisiting' and i got to agree with them. Generally older games work well with Windows 11 and if not then the tweaks have not been that tough to perform and the quality and passion the devs had for their products was something else back then. Talking generally here. Pick almost any product and compare it to the usual AAA slop out there where it seems Ubisoft and EA are just the ones leading the pack over the cliff. Everyone wants a piece of that fail pie.

Another thing to note is that i am starting to feel the age when it comes to learning new games. The genres i care to even look into these days just keeps getting narrower. Vampire survivors? No thanks. Expensive Racers? No thanks. For me Assetto Corsa is the peak and fallback is old Simbin stuff / rFactor (also when you want something specific AC doesn't provide. There exists such things. It is not the Alpha and the Omega and neither is any online/monthly race game coming after AC). What is left will be provided by more arcadey stuff from other game houses. BeamNG sticks out. This one fills the niche there between. Excellent. What more would you need? Apparently so many still think this can be improved. Test Drive Unlimited successors seem to be either shutting down or just bad so perhaps someone would try to make a actual successor without all the DLC noise.

Simulators? It is what it is, you can only extract so much from this without going deep into hardware and paying through your nose. First Person games of any type? Sure thing but i am clearly being off put by the demands of the hardcore people making their demands and them clearly winning so we get these 'very hard souls like games' everywhere. Ok fine. At least the battle royale trend buckled and i dont have to even pretend to be interested in anything related to that. Walking sims are still around but color me surprised: Seems like the most innovative years in that too are over.

It seems to me i will mostly just sit on the wall and dangle my feet over and watch the gaming circles as i knew them either sink or burn or maybe go towards new heights. Gaming is a like our eastern neighbor: Never as strong as it seems and never as weak as it seems so surprises will come. Meanwhile i will keep my wallet hanging dry. Mostly. Indies is always a interesting random Original Content creator so there likely will once again come the Stanley Parables worth playing.

I have clocked over 1000 hours on this game on the old retail DVD version. And all i can say is this is the best Total War game CA has released - and will probably ever release. Shogun and later games have their good sides but this one is still the best. Kingdoms expansion adds some 200-500 hours more of gameplay should you run out. Stainless Steel and some other unit expansion mods adds some hundreds more.

Graphics are getting old and the good ol' AI is not that splendid. Not even with mods - but this game along with it's older brother in arms Rome Total War got things right on some things that CA persistently cannot reproduce anymore: pure fun, paper rock scissors -type of strategy that enables exciting and interesting meta-campaigns. (who cares about official campaign goals - these games are always more or less open ended). And lets not forget those exciting long battles.

Later games brought more crashing and complexity and lost something on the road. Fun and entertainment value being the first ones who took a fatal trebuchet cow carcass shot to the neck.
