People used to tell me this was the Battlefield of the poor or cheapskates.

Well, I played Battlefield after this and was so bored that I went right back to Planetside.

It might not look as polished or cool as the new BF titles, but at least it feels like a real war with dozens of players fighting each other in epic three way fights with combined arms (infantry, tanks, aircrafts)
I have spent countless hours in this game fighting over the same bases over and over and it NEVER got boring because every fight is different (unless it is zerged by the enemy, which, admittedly, happens from time to time)

It is a great game with a fair F2P mechanic that only locks cosmetics behind a pay wall. Everything else can be earned with free ingame currency called certs. And while some of the prices may seem way too high, they can all be achieved by setting goals for oneself and work for them. It's also what kept me motivated all the time. To unlock new stuff followed by setting my aims for the next unlock I wanted to achieve.

Truth be told, the game could be better. Updates are sparse, sadly, whether it is regarding new content or mere bug fixes, but at least the game isn't abandoned by the dev team, and the player count isn't declining too rapidly despite the game being quite old by now.

Planetside is a unique MMOFPS shooter that has no competition on the market. Sure, there might be other FPS games around, but none of them truly give you the same mass scale battle feeling like this game does. Until another MMOFPS game emerges on the market, this is the only game there is for it. If you are interested in huge combined arms battles, this is the game for you. Just don't give up right at the start, as the game has quite the learning curve.
