Hands down one of the most unique things i've played in years. Cerebral like chess in that you have to plan your moves ahead and account for different things, but also actiony. It's a weird hybrid of a whole bunch of stuff and it does all of it right. Frankly if this game isn't in your collection, you should get it right away. You won't regret it.

Despair.

With a sunken feeling in his gut, his head and heart pounding, hands coated in sweat, the man sat in his seat on the train. Alone. Desperate. Afraid. He didn't know why he had gotten on board, and he didn't really remember or care to.

There was no one else on board the train, he was totally alone. Then something happened - the train stopped, the lights cut out. There was a horrendous, loud noise, followed immediately by a horrendous, loud silence. He called out into the dark, but nobody answered. "But this... so scary ." the man mused to himself, including the extraneous space before the end of his sentence. Clearly the despair of the situation had even affected his very thoughts.

None of this would have happened if he'd just idled the game for steam cards. Silly man.

It's Super Smash Brothers with customizable robots. Pretty much owns.

A pretty good shooter interspersed by a pretty mediocre platformer. Art style's alright too, and the soundtrack is pretty damn good.

I don't know what it is about these ball-breakingly difficult games that I find anything so compelling in. This game's permadeath system and unrepentantly vicious survival mechanics will not hesitate to gut you and throw you in a ditch in the blink of an eye, yet despite having my best efforts thwarted time and time again I keep finding myself coming on back for another go with an idea in mind that may or may not work out in the end.

I think the best part of this game is that while it's easy enough to just *survive* once you've got the basics down, something about it is just constantly egging you on to try and excel rather than merely surviving. I can see the permadeath being fustrating to players who don't like their time investment being swept away, but even then it's worth a try or two.

Absolutely stellar. For the low price of admission, I got hours and hours of fun out of this one. While dauntingly difficult at first since the game will not pull any punches at all, you gradually learn as you play to deal with both the frantic short term action sequences, the nuances of the visual-novel like choices presented to you, and the long term planning needed to actually beat the game. It is VERY well-balanced in this regard, which is suprising for its arcade-like gameplay sessions that generally won't last more than a couple of hours each.

The combination of being a joy to play and being able to drop in and out of a game without much investment makes this an excellent purchase. The low price of the game only adds to the value of this gem.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I wouldn't recommend this game, but it does have some rather glaring issues, the main one being the content, or lack thereof. The entire game world consists of four rather small areas, and once you're done with that and move onto the New Game plus mechanic, it's just repetitive iterations of the same stuff you've already played.
It IS a solid game on the face of it, but honestly I think if you're going to get it, get it on a sale. Save it for a rainy day.

Reminds me a lot of Star Control II in terms of gameplay mechanics, but with more overarching strategy and customisation going on. The opening blurb says that they wanted to make games that they don't see a lot of any more compared to days gone by and I think they did a fine job of it. The only problems are it can get a bit grindy sometimes, and the AI for your assistant ships is beyond moronic. Apart from that though, I would recommend this.

Shoot a hell of a lot of things. Or beat them up.
This is the kind of "fling giant hordes of crap at the player constantly and let them learn how to deal with it" gameplay I like, also seen in stuff like Gunstar Heroes. The twist of the game getting more and more pissed off as you take longer is a unique twist on it, too. The achievements system works out pretty well too - you unlock more content as you complete challenges.
Gotten a lot of mileage out of this one for how much I paid. Great value.

A game in which one man dooms the world by ruining a prophecy by shanking some random rude dude that got on his nerves, then wanders off into a giant creaky brass ruin to jump up a stairwell and cast 1-point burden spells on himself all day.

Or you could go to Solstheim and became to be a werewolf then murder absolutely everyone that ever existed, that tends to be pretty balla also. What i'm saying is this one is kinda cool and you should probably get it.
