Early Access Review
TLDR:
If you have friends to play with definitely buy now.

If your going solo - if you like this style of game it will steadily grow on you until you love it and that will sustain you while you wait for more factions/maps to be added. So you may as well get it now and start falling in love.

If your on the fence, wait until its full release and all the things are added, like more factions, maps and the modders get their hands on it. Then you won't be disappointed and you will enjoy a very full in-depth and interesting game.

The Long:

I really enjoy the game. It just needs to be fleshed out a bit to help with replayability. I assume that more factions will be coming which is a big must and that will take care of itself. Perhaps as a personal thought, more maps, maybe with possible objectives/scenarios will help too. But there is already a map builder so I’m sure once some fantastic modders get their hands on it that will also be readily available. So hopefully a steam workshop will also be added to facilitate this easily.

For a solo player perhaps wait until these things are added and then you will have a great time. Not that you wont already, you just might be a little disappointed that you have to wait for these things to give you everything you would expect, but that's part and parcel of the early access experience.

I've heard only good things from others about the developers and their willingness to listen to constructive criticism and implement bug fixes and improvements, so my hopes are high for the future of this game and that all these things will be added.

The only thing that annoys me at the moment is the AI. It just sends wave after wave of tiny troll armies around to jack your resources that you have to chase down. Then when you go to explore the next part of the map another appears, building your own small armies to deal with them is the obvious solution, but as soon as you build one, the AI makes 2 troll armies and this continues. You keep killing all of these without taking losses and the AI is meant to be spending resources to rebuild these, but then suddenly it’s not a troll army coming at you but a doom stack. Where did it get the resources from? And never mind the resources, where did it get the recruitment numbers from? Anyway, maybe a little bit of AI number crunching happening in the brackground like in other games, or maybe it’s doing something else I haven't noticed.

Also, if you add a second AI it pretty much becomes a 2 on 1. I've watched their armies pass right by each other and resources and head straight towards my much more powerful army stack and just suicide time and again. It's meant to be a free for all not 2v1.

Long story short, I would like to have more large exciting tactical battles against the AI and not just be playing whac-a-mole. So some AI tweaks are definitely needed.

Despite this tho, as previously stated I'm really enjoying the game and while whac-a-mole is frustrating it's making me watch my progress much more closely and keeps me replaying as I try and work out exactly what it is the AI is doing. But I think many others will find it more frustrating than fun.

Developers, keep the updates coming and I will keep playing and recommending it to people.
