I picked up the game because I was immediately drawn to the hand-pencil textures, and the rural isolated theme, and let me tell you the game didn't disappoint me at all.

Mundaun borrows some inspiration from games like the long dark, there are several houses in the village in which you can take refuge, leave supplies there and upgrade yourself with coffee.

The story is really captivating. When you come back to the village where you grew up, the priest of Mundaun sends you a letter informing you of the death of your grandfather. Once you arrive you see the hut of your grandfather turned to ashes, something tells you this was not an accident. From there you meet a mysterious man that greets you with a firm handshake that will leave a mark on you. I have to add the fantastic use of portraits in this game. The FOV gets shallower and you start listening to the sounds of the painting almost as if you are reliving the occurances of the painting.

My favorite part without a doubt was the exploration the game offers. You can backtrack almost at every point ( which is rare for a story driven game ) . The level design is amazing. I was always having that feeling of discovering something new, while having a clear direction of where to go and how to. Many interactions result in the addition of journal pages, which are amazing. These range from: entries with puzzles instructions, drawing of the characters, breakdowns of how the enemies behave and my favorite, hand drawn maps that can aid with navigation.

In terms of length the game feels really adequate to me, it's a short story, expect around 4 to 5 hours, it has some replayability potential since there are some important choices you can revisit, but I dunno how big those are since I just finished my first play through.

In short if you like horror this is a must have small indie masterpiece.
