So I never really review games. No real reason, just never got around to doing one. So for me to be making a review is quite the rare sight.

This game, it really caught me by surprise. Buddy bought it for me because he really liked the music and atmosphere. So i went to play it one night, and it hooked me. Easily a 9/10 game for me. Hands down, no questions asked.

-Music is beautiful. It really is. I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD600s for a while and used my microphone amp to listen to games, and this pushed me out to finally buy a preamp and do the music justice. 10/10 for music and abient noise. Some of the best ever.

-Gameplay is tight. Like, super tight. I've seen some complaints about using a xbone controller or having input lag and between my roommate and I, neither one of us had the issues. The commands feel fluent, the fights are fair. They are hard and they don't follow a pattern, but once you learn a boss, you can see the start of their movesets by the animations they use to let you know what's next. Not once did I feel cheated out of a fight.

-Story is really deep, but it doesn't set in until you get to the last 3/4s of the game. If you really want to get some thought provoking gameplay, go for a 100% run. It doesn't take too long, about 22-25 hours (I spent a lot of time paused and reading reddit). You don't have to fill out the monster log for a 100% run either. It's a dark story and has a couple endings as well. Future DLC will be a thing.

-Progression feels nice. Between the badge system and upgrading your weapon, you really feel it. You can tell the difference in your playstyle for each of the 30+ badges you interchange. Collectables are awesome, backtracking allows you to realize how much strong, but even more importantly, how much better of a player you have become.

-Characters are super interesting. Between the singing mining beetle, to the map maker, to the warrior looking for a challenge, I remember all the characters, maybe not by name, but by their actions and personality I could be like "oh yea, that guy!"

-Bosses are awesome. I loved every boss fight and found myself looking for more bosses as often as possible.

-Replayability, they have a no death mode to play after you beat the game, but this game definately has replayability for both challenge runs and speed runs if you are into those things. I think GDQ is doing this game on July 4th as well. So you can prep yourself up and compare yourself to those guys if you are into that sort of thing.

This game is great, a 40$ value for 15$. You CANNOT go wrong with that. I'd be doing this game and it's devs injustice if I did not recommend it. If you like platforming games, or games with some challenge but fair challenge, get this game. You will not regret it.
