A dream of innocent people, brought up in a world that never knew the meaning of peace.

A dream of people who risked their lives for the sake of those they wished to protect.
But the only thing that separates dream from reality, is whether it feels real to you upon waking up.

And yet... I still feel like there must've been something I could've done.
I feel like that has to be the reason why I was brought to this world.
If this future was truly unavoidable, then what was the point of me being here at all?

As well as my own destiny... I don't think any of this was set in stone.
If I'd had a strong will to protect this world from the beginning...
Then maybe I could've accomplished something no one else could. That's what I think.

I'll live on, and survive... and try to protect all of this.
I want to protect this abandoned world to the very end. That's what I want.
Those who've been left behind... All the memories that remain... And... the woman I love... I'll protect them with all my life.

Update: after finishing a rereading a year after reading the story for the first time, and after having finished the anime and reading almost everything related to the world's setting on Steam, Alternative slaps harder than the first time.

I only hope this franchise doesn't fall into a limbo after all these years of lukewarm projects, and we finally reach another golden age of Muv-Luv.
