Phantom Liberty is an exceptional addition to Cyberpunk 2077 and an absolute must-have if you're planning to replay the game or experience it for the first time. First, it unlocks an additional ending for the base game, and second, it introduces a new skill tree with incredibly useful abilities. Paired with the massive overhaul in the 2.0 update, this DLC redefines how you see the base game.

This was my second playthrough (my first was on 1.5), and I’m completely blown away. The OST is phenomenal, staying true to the spirit of the original. P.T. Adamczyk has outdone himself, crafting a soundtrack that deeply enhances the DLC’s emotional weight. The titular track "Phantom Liberty," which plays during the credits, brought tears to my eyes—just like the endings of the base game did.

The quality of this DLC is on par with CDPR’s expansions for The Witcher 3. It masterfully combines all the aspects that made those so special. The opening act of the DLC takes its time, encouraging you to engage in stealth and combat. I played on the highest difficulty, and while it’s challenging, it never felt off-putting. I also loved the expanded role of Mr. Hands, who becomes a fully fleshed-out character and fixer here.

Huge thanks to CDPR and everyone involved in bringing this masterpiece to life. It’s bittersweet to know we won’t see more games on the RedEngine. I just hope the next chapter of Cyberpunk won’t suffer from the transition to Unreal Engine. The DLC’s visuals are breathtaking, and much of its beauty stems from the rendering capabilities of RedEngine and the stunning art direction. That said, there are some rough edges, like FPS drops in certain parts of Dogtown—but these are minor and present in the base game as well.


I’ve experienced all the endings in the DLC, and here’s my take:

The ending where you betray Songbird left an unforgettable impression. The design and presentation work brilliantly to heighten the atmosphere. When you’re locked in the zone with the Cerberus bot—completely powerless to fight back—it turns the game into a survival horror. Cerberus is controlled by an AI intent on flatline you. While some may criticize this section for being overly punishing or oppressive, I think it’s an expertly crafted shift into something akin to Resident Evil’s Tyrant or Alien: Isolation. I was on edge the entire time. The finisher animations may not have been designed as jump scares, but they’re undeniably chilling. I had to rely on a lot of save-loads to make it through, and I loved every moment.

The second ending, where you choose to betray Reed, is much more straightforward since you retain the ability to fight. However, it’s no less impactful. You finally get to see the spaceport and use Blackwall abilities to their fullest. One specific ability lets you one-shot anything—from soldiers to helicopters—with a single button press. There’s even a surprising choice that allows you to betray So Mi or shoot Reed.

Both endings give Johnny plenty of unique dialogue. With each ending offering two possible outcomes, Phantom Liberty is a stellar expansion that profoundly enriches the base game. It completely changed how I feel about the main story, and all for the better.
