I've revisited the game after the dev has had time to update it several times. They have fixed a large number of the issues that were plaguing this game and I've now almost completed it. I can say, if you find this game in the bargain bin at some point, pick it up.

Well, dang. It's sad that I have to edit this review because I was having so much fun with the game. I had no issues with the first "level" of the game, but once I was outside that town, the crashes started happening all too frequently. There are bugs galore in this game, and a simple check of the InXile|Bard's Tale 4 forum will show you just how bad it's become. I've submitted several bugs to the developer and have had no replies. At this time, until they fix the bugs, I can't recommend this game. It's almost unplayable in the later levels.

*ORIGINAL REVIEW*
When I kick started this project, I had such high hopes. Alas, all my preconcieved ideas were squashed. With a heavy heart I started playing the game after receiving my very nice box set. A glimer of hope. If the developer put as much thought and "notalgia" into the physical goods, maybe something could be scavenged from the game. One hour turned into two. Two turned into four. I saw the game series I loved recreated in the only way it could have been done, with love. There is just so much in this game that brings back the many many MANY hours I spent playing Bards Tale (1-3). It's a fun game, with a trip down memory lane, and nostalgia to boot. I'm really happy I kick started this game! If you like RPG's and you played games back in the early days of computers (i.e. 1990's), I can't recommend this game enough.
