Updated Again:

You can see I have a love hate relationship with this game. It seems like the new update ruined it. I will most likely not be returning.

UPDATED:

Here's the deal. This game is not for the faint of heart. You will need to grind, and grind hard, to be successful. You will need to join a caln to be successful and get the most out of the game. Most of all, you need to take challenges and setbacks in stride to get the most out of this game. My old review stands, but having switched to a new nation (China from the USA), things are different in each nation. My suggestion: hop in some national discords or even reset your account a few times to get the vibe of each nation and go from there. The US is fun if you are a LARPer for the US like me, but I couldn't take being a literal Russian vassal state. In all honestly, every country is a Russian vassal, but when you have the biggest 2 US clans in the last 6 months in-fighting with each other while one makes deals with Russia to take ports from other clans, I just can't jive with that. So basically, shop around, be ready to grind, and most of all, find friends that can help and sail with you. If you do that, the payoff is amazing. Fighting in an HDF against 20 1st rates is just plain epic, and the razor thin challenge of PVP can be fun for others as well. For $6 when the game goes on sale, its a no brainer. Just be ready for one of the most challenging, time consuming games, that you'll ever play.

Note on my old review: These things are mainly true. But if you find the right crew, the right clan, and the right nation, the fun of the game outweighs the negatives.

OLD REVIEW:

Want a game with power hungry clan leaders working against your nation to enrich their own clan? Want to work your way up learning a complex capitalistic, fun trade system for it to be replaced by transport simulator? Want to get ganked by players in uber ships that you can't compete with? Want to get addicted to a game whose developers will rip away anything you learn in a single "update" while releasing DLCs that are clear money grabs? Want to be bored? Buy Naval Action. Want to play a game that's worth your time? Buy anything else.
