When I first bought this game and noticed in the Steam store page Requires 3rd-Party Account: PlayStation Network (Supports Linking to Steam Account) & Requires an agreement to a 3rd-party EULA. I read the EULA at the time of purchase and there was no mention of having a PSN account and linking it as part of the agreement. Others have read this too and came to the same conclusion. Before May 3rd, for PC players, signing into a PSN account to play games on PC was optional. After May 3rd, I saw that Sony changed that part to say "Some PlayStation games may require you to sign in and link to an account for PSN.

Given Sony's bad track record when it comes to data breaches and as someone who was a victim of 2 of those breaches, I cannot and will not trust Sony with any of my data. This would just add another account security risk. I feel sorry for Arrowhead Game Studios as this is not their decision to make but, I won't leave my data in the hands of Sony.

The good news today May 6th, 2024, is that Sony has backed off from forcing players from the PC community to link their Steam account to a PSN account. This is the first step in the right direction. Now I hope our fellow helldivers in countries that don't have PSN will be able to play the game without fear of getting locked out of the game they purchased. If we need signatures for a petition to allow those regions to play on Steam, I will gladly sign it. Now to go back in the game and deliver some managed democracy to our enemies.
