This game is my favourite of the current array of third person ARPGs. What people would call "Souls-like".

Truthfully, I think it's better than the Dark Souls trilogy and the other Fromsoft entries. I think this is peak third person ARPG. Deck 13 has worked hard for this. Lords of the Fallen and the original Surge proves that it's not just a random occurence; because those games pale in comparison. They have clearly taken in critique of their past games and worked towards a better game in every aspect.
The Surge 2 not only manages to fully understand what people loved about the world design of the original Dark Souls. They have managed to overtake it. While Fromsoft tried to streamline, evident in their later titles; Deck 13 had only one mission. To make good ARPGs for ARPG fans. This is it.

Now Elden Ring might blow everything out of the water, but that's not out yet, as of writing this. Even if you're reading this post-Elden, I still fully recommend this game as well.

It's so good. Warm recommendation.

It's sci-fi. It has nanobots. It has a dystopian future. It has wicked corporations and long-running mysteries.
It has a good narrative. Combat is engaging and satisfying.
I would love one or two more weapon archetypes (personally missing something a la pure Dual Wield that isn't Double-Duty, Twin-Rigged, or Gauntlets; and Shield with One Handed or just Shield), but overall the equipment aspect is quite good. There are so many weapons and armour sets. I am sure you'll find something you like.
The audio is really immersive as well. Art direction and graphical fidelity are up there likewise.

THE KRAKEN:
The Kraken is a smaller but simultaneously completely deranged and utterly wholesome narrative entry. I fully recommend it if you like the main game.
Who doesn't like robots, pirates, and idealised suburban neighbourhoods built on top of aircraft carriers.
