aaaahhhh... Doom. The game that made me a PC Gamer for life. There is NOTHING i can say about this game that has not already been said. The single player campaign is for sure the best game that has come out this year, and to be honest its probably the best FPS in recent years hands down. The pace is breakneck, the graphics are astounding, the soundtrack is phenomonal. Nearly everything you remember about Doom is here.

I want to say this now. This review does not reflect my feelings of the multiplayer portion of the game. It feels tacked on, it feels like its a seperate game and to me it doesnt feel like Doom. Two staples of Doom are completely missing from the multiplayer portion of Doom, and if it were a seperate game it is bad enough that i would not buy it. Co-op and free for all deathmatch are completely missing from this game. Doom multiplayer was built on these two modes and them both being missing is a travesty.

That being said, the SP mode is where this game shines, and oh boy does it shine! The story is a bit lacking for sure, but Doom never really had a whole lot of story anyways, so nothing really missing in this catagory. The gameplay is fast and frantic. On harder difficulties if you stop moving you are DEAD. There is a great variety of demons, both old and new, and the models for them all are spectacular. All your favorite Doom weapons have returned, and most of them are upgradeable. The weapon models themselves (like all other models in the game) are fantastic. Though i have not played through the entire game, what i have seen so far of the backgrounds are beautiful, and the textures have alot of variety.

All in all this game is a must purchase for any fan of Doom, any fan of arena shooters or honestly any fan of FPS games in general. There is nothing on the market that compares, and i feel it will be quite awhile before something does compare.
