Suspicious Developments is back with another game about defenestrating people, but this time it's wizards. The theme is lovely, the story is engaging, the dialogue is great and the gameplay is fun!

It's a mix between a tactics game and a puzzle game, executed to a very high degree of competence. Most of your team members don't fit into the archetypes you'd expect in a tactics game and all of them bring very interesting abilities to the table that encourage thinking outside the box, especially because just shooting at dudes will get you nowhere and comboing abilities is where it's at. It's obvious the devs put a lot of thought into creating puzzles that let you use your wizards in creative ways.

I've bought this cutesy, lovely, happy little game expecting it to be a fun experience, and it was.

However, the mechanics are quite simplistic, with 60 players it feels more like RNG to see if you'll qualify for the next round and if you're unlucky and / or bad it feels quite punishing having to wait out an entire contest if you're playing with friends, and the friends themselves add nothing to your experience.

The asking price, however, is a bit steep. 20€ for a polished yet simplistic game is 5-10€ more than I'd be willing to pay. Fun as it is, I sadly see this game going the way of Mordhau, with a short and intense boom in popularity due to streamers having a blast with it but having played less than two hours I can already say that it gets very repetitive very fast.

Tl;Dr: Perfectly decent game considering its price.

It's very clearly a game made by the b-team with some reused assets from XCOM 2, with a quirky 80's cartoon vibe (which is rather well executed, even if it doesn't quite fit the setting). Characters are flat but identifiable and some of them are even likeable.

Gameplay wise, it's not as difficult as the previous XCOM titles but it's also much faster, as you go in kicking down the door instead of slowly crawling around the map trying to wake as few pods at once as possible. The fact that initiatives are mixed (you control one cop, then one criminal moves, then another one of your cops...) is interesting and there are certain characters with the ability to influence the turn order as well.

All in all, a good experience for a fair price.

Several game mechanics are tied to framerate, so unless you're willing to cap your FPS to 30 via vsync you won't be able to get past the siege of Monteriggioni.

2/10 you'd expect developers in 2010 to not use framerate as a logic clock, yet here we are.

I am so on the fence about this game:

On the one hand, most of what you'll read in the negative reviews is true. The lenght is padded out by Senua's incredibly slow walking speed that forces you to hold down the shift key, which only makes her jog at a laughably slow pace. The combat system is merely serviceable and doesn't really pose much of a challenge, and in some cases it also feels like it's only there as padding. The puzzles (if you can even call them that) are not a challenge at all, the true test is seeing if you can endure granny Senua's stroll through the forest while she walks from one piece of the puzzle to the next.

On the other, however, it's a visual masterpiece, the voice and mocap acting are really good, the sound design is stellar and the soundtrack is a perfect fit. Not only that, the story is simple but well executed and the writing in general is good as well, from the internal monologues to the snippets of Norse mythos scattered around the world.

On the matter of mental health awareness, it does a great job at portraying what's it like to suffer from psychosis. They could've gone for the cheap and clear hallucinations where it's obvious that Senua is having an episode but, for the most part, they manage to show how for her everything that's happening is real. I'm not going to on a rant about the importance of tackling taboo themes in videogames (or any media, for that matter) but if you're on the fence about buying this game, and that matters to you, consider it a positive.

All in all, I'd say it's a great experience and that you should play it, the keyword being "experience", because as a game it's not so great.

There's something incredibly satisfying in the deadly ballet dance that is My Friend Pedro.

Do play with the beta build if you're at all concerned with max framerate or input lag, though.

This game used to be one of the best co-op experiences on steam, emphasizing the "USED TO". Nowadays, it's just another example of corporate greed.

more than a year ago, they started releasing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC with new weapons that gave you an advantage other players couldn't get without spending more cash (a.k.a. sniper rifles and their ability to pierce through riot shields, grenades that you can't get otherwise and special ammo types to make shotguns viable), but we let it slide

This year's crimefest promised several free rewards for the fanbase if we completed several arbitrary challenges. Do you want to know what was the first so-called "reward" revealed? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WEAPON CASES AND KEYS, A LA CS:GO. Not only that, but SKINS PROVIDE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STAT BONUSES.

What's even better is that Overkill stated several years ago that the game wouldn't feature microtransactions. Guess what: Now it does, and they refuse to make any sort of official statement. The closest thing we have is a tweet from ONE OF THE VOICE ACTORS saying that Overkill is listening to feedback. Pathetic.

Tl; Dr: Full price game featuring microtransactions. Stay away.

CS:GO Review
BUYERS BEWARE: THIS GAME IS COMPLETELY FULL OF SMURFS

If you enjoy a tactical competitive shooter with intense matches full of tension, I'm sorry but this game is not for you. Most of your public competitive games will happen to have a smurf on the opposing team, who is only there because his life couldn't be more miserable and needs easy wins against players with a lower skill level to feel fullfilled and not think about the fact that no one loves or will ever love him and that he's wasting oxygen and probably should hang himself.

Then, that smurf will carry his team so hard that no matter how good you actually are, you will inevitably lose over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until you're in Silver 3. The fact that having multiple steam accounts is allowed and there is no way to avoid the smurfing maggots that call themselves human beings makes the playing experience a thousand times worse than it should be.

All in all, it's a good game. It really is. It's the pathetic pieces of ♥♥♥♥ that have nothing better to do than smurf and waste oxygen that will ruin it. Caveat Emptor
