UPDATE 2024:
The game itself is great, and you can pour countless hours in it. Unfortunately cheating seems to be at an all time high. While I'm sure the devs are doing their best to combat it, me and my team simply aren't noticing it. That aside, it has a steep learning curve, but it's an enjoyable one. If you have any responsibilities at all though, the game is not viable to play on a serious level. A solo/small group won't get to experience every aspect of the game the same way a clan would.

There's been a lot of controversial changes over the past few years (majority of which I disagree with) but the game is thriving. Modded more so than vanilla though, in my opinion. Which is unfortunate because low modded servers/vanilla servers are a better experience than 10x gather servers.
