I've been playing this game for 2 years now and I'm still playing it.
It has it ups and downs, but you can clearly notice that level of commitment from Bungie to make this the best game ever. You can notice this by the weekly updates that they publish, and the involvement of the community managers on Reddit.
Also the Quality of Life updates for older content.

They are in the position where they can do a lot of experimentation on how the game could work. And I commend them for trying stuff out. Sometimes certain features are not liked by the community because of this. But that's part of the process of experimentation.

The gameplay feels really good. The movement feels natural and popping headhots is super satisfying. If you like first person shooters with RPG elements, then this definitely worth a try. (base game is free!)

I also like that there's a lot of content in this game for single players. But you can also play them with a group of 3. This makes it more flexible in how you want to play. Some activities also have automatic matchmaking (If you dont have many friends...).

If you're pretty good and like challenges, there's plenty of raids (like 7 already?) that require 6 player cooperation (or less if you're really good!) There are also some dungeons to do which in itself is a hard challenge with 3 players. But of course you can try to solo this.

There are a lot of things to collect. My current collection count is somewhere around 2200/2700 items. So there's plenty to do. This may cause the FOMO (Fear of missing out) effect though, so be wary for that.

Up until now i've talked about Player vs Environment, but you also have Player vs Player. There are several "Crucible" gamemodes to pick from if you fancy that stuff. Since the community is so big, a lot of players have a keen eye for super effective load-outs. This sometimes causes a shift of unfairness unless you join in on the load-out. However Bungie already announced to even the plain field. This could mean a nerf to certain load-outs. But they prefer to buff other things instead. Because nerfing everything to the ground doesn't feel fair to the player base.

All in all. Definitely recommend. If you can, play with a friend together through the story missions (story questline may be hidden at the NPC Amanda). That's the most fun (in my opinion).
