XCOM: Enemy Unknown is one of; if not the best game I have ever played! I absolutely love the fact that what you do inside the base, such as researching and manufacturing new technologies, has a easy-to-see direct impact on the fight against the aliens. In this game, you are not forced to the story missions as soon as they are available. On some playthoughs, I have waited a few game months before attempting and in other playthoughs, I would to the story missions as fast as possible and see how I did.

You feel a direct connection for the soldiers and when a soldier dies that you have used since Day 1, you feel genuinely sad and wish that you could turn back the clock. Unfortunately, if you are playing on Ironman mode (this means that you are auto-saved every few turns and cannot go back to previous versions), you have lost him forever. This pain hurts even more if you have the Elite Soldiers Pack as that allows you to customize your soldiers from the hair colour to the armour tint.

This game was certainly money well spent and this is the game I have put the most amount of hours into because there are “Second Wave” options which allow for huge differences between playthoughs and so much more.
