Rimworld is a great managment game.

The only problem is that its brilliant design is flawed.

The gameplay itself is great. The people you start with either crashland or wander onto the map and with that, the game begins.

You build up a basic shelter with beds, a place to cook and a storage room and expand from there, mining ressources, trading, defending and attacking things.

Of course, since this is a managment game, you don't do anything of it yourself, you just give the orders to. And here is the first flaw. You don't really order anything, it's more of a suggestion that your colonists might do that if they have time, don't have anything else to do and aren't drinking their 10th beer. You CAN force a colonist to do that order, but that either only applies to that specific thing or makes your pawn work until they die of starvation/exhaution. No, the better way of doing this is to give every pawn a small amount of things to do... meaning they'll idle around, a lot. So, the other best way is MICROMANAGING, which works... it's just flawed.

The game looks fine, it's certainly nothing hyperrealistic but it works very well for the game. Graphic glitches only appear rarely and usually happen when items or pawns overlap.

Your pawns are also needy bastards. They don't only need food and sleep, they also need recreation time, have a mood-bar which is influenced by everything from their loved ones dying to a field being dirty. Hell, they even need to go outdoors every now and then! You'll need to watch their temperature, traits and hope to god that they don't have a mental break. One of the easiest ways to make your pawn happy are drugs... but of course those have negative effects and you pawn might become addicted as well.

If you haven't noticed, this game is hard. Your pawns are pretty stupid and needy, and every mistake could mean one of them dies. But that's the point of this game. It's based on drama. Maybe a pawn will become sick while you don't have medicine. Maybe your pawns have a rivaraly between the two. Maybe some social fighting will destroy a leg or eye. A pawn can have his limbs shot off while defending the base from raiders. Anything is possible and will hinder you. But that's the point of this game. It's not gonna be an easy time and people will die (or watch their friends die).
