This game has some notorious pop-in and clearly needed just a little bit more time in the oven to truly complete the experience. By the tail end of the game, you can see the cracks as they become obvious.

That being said, I recommend this game because it made me smile. It's nothing ground-breaking, but it was enough to make me feel that warmth that Sonic games used to give me. The characters are much better written here, the music is interesting if a little grating at times and the game is locked to 60 but I can't say I've had any noticeable drops.

Voice performances are complimented heavily by the tone set in the writing. If you're not aware of the massive debate around Sonic voice actors, you either love Roger Craig Smith's take, or you hate it. Truthfully, I've never been a fan until now. The voice used for Sonic is jarring at first, but you quickly forget about it after a few cutscenes.

Would I say this game is worth paying £49.99? No, I can't say it warrants that price. However, £39.99 or lower makes this a good deal, and some stores are currently selling it physically for £29.99 for Black Friday sales. If you want a decent length game with a bit of bang for your buck, at that price this is worth checking out.
