im gut keya? Game slaps

----------------------

Was great, but they keep screwing up performance making the game unplayable.

----------------------

There's still a long way to go, but the the changes I've seen recently are allowing this game to shine more with each patch. Glad they fixed the Recent Players Steam integration, it's a huge boon for creating and maintaining community.

HAIL THE OMNISSIAH!

-- [Previous Review follows ] -------------------------------------------------------------

I can not recommend this game in its current state.

It looks like I got a ton of hours out of this, but in reality a good chunk of that was wasted due to:
- sitting with the launcher open (let's be real, games only create launchers to advertise and to artificially inflate play times)
- backend errors
- matchmaking errors
- sitting in the hub waiting on map rotations
- waiting on the hub to load and walking/running to the ridiculously spread out shops and amenities of the hub and mission board
- waiting on the pre-mission ready up screen/lobby to load
- waiting on the shop lists to load
- waiting on the map to load
- waiting around for the RNG shops to refresh for the day/hour
- switching characters, and thus having to load the main menu and then the hub again, to check their shops, or being kicked out or randomly disconnected while doing the above activities "due to inactivity" to the title screen
- reloading the game from scratch due to crashes and instabilities caused by obvious memory leaks
- spamming a button to re-roll an item perk over and over and over and over to try to get a critical roll of the perk that I actually want (while irreversibly locking the other one) and often this lags like crazy between button presses waiting on the server or just flat out fails leaving the currency spent and no update to the item, click the button again and then suddenly it updates and oh it was what you wanted, but the second update processed too now so it was lost and you have to start over clicking again!

Since my last update we can now add to the above that the servers have become increasingly unstable with rubber banding, hit reg failures, pouncing enemies diving through terrain, doing 360 degree spins around obstacles or >90 degree turns around cover, shooting through terrain, spawning in plain sight, on top of you, right behind you, increasing amounts of latency/lag, and the developer, Fatshark, has completely failed to deliver any new content or even the most basic levels of communication while the concurrent player count is tanking leaving the higher difficulties a ghost town and forcing you to play with bots that walk into the middle of groups of enemies and stand there, shoot through barrels blowing the entire team off the map, ending the run, or stand there trying to revive with multiple high priority, easily manageable threats right next to them, can't carry equipment or objectives, etc, etc.

I loved their previous title, Vermintide 2, which is a better game across the board in every single way mentioned above and below, including bots and concurrent player counts. As such I will be playing that game again and I will be uninstalling Darktide if nothing is seen within the week, because I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done with the current state of the game.

-- [End of Year 2022 Review follows ] -------------------------------------------------------------

The most recent patch fixed most of the more egregious performance issues for my system and once that was resolved I started actually being able to experience the game without the constant frustration.

The game is unfinished, and was released too early, there is no doubt about that, but when you get right down to it, the main game itself is really fun, especially on Damnation difficulty (+5), and have had some of the best times I've had in gaming even just doing Quick Play on Damnation difficulty.

Crafting as a whole doesn't exist, but I've been able to find enough of what I need, albeit very slowly and painfully RNG-driven.

At a certain point you start to feel the game, how it works, the space between. I can do things like knock back a horde and toss a couple shells in my shotgun to prepare for a special that I hear coming around the corner, slam down a giant Ogryn, snipe a sniper, and save teammates with balls clenched so tight it hurts.

There's a reason I kept playing the game despite its flaws; the game is good and it looks and plays great. (For me)

This game nails what its like to be a nobody, a reject, in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. You are meat for the machine, in every sense of the saying.

-- [Launch Review Follows] -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Game should have been listed as Early Access, missing core gameplay mechanics, bugs abound, missing content, missing story, reused maps and weapon variants masquerading as "unique", performance issues, server issues, can't merge a strike team, recent players not working, secondary objective and crafting material random spawn locations bugged so that you cannot interact with them to pick them up, Heresy difficulty stuck in endless horde mode, hits not registering, RNG for everything, 4 classes at launch in DT vs 15 at launch in VT2, the list just goes on and on and on...

But hey! You can absolutely buy cosmetics in the in-game shop via microtransactions and any time there's a crash in the shop those are the first bugs fixed!

As someone who loved their previous game, Vermintide 2 with over 1,400 hrs played and who bought several cosmetics from the in-game store in that game to support the ongoing development of it, I really wanted to love this game, and in truth the game is fantastic graphically and in concept, but it is a hollow shell of what it should be after they pulled all resources off of Vermintide 2 to work on Darktide instead.

The recent [as of yet unreleased] updates they announced to crafting to Refine an item were taken from VT2, but made worse, so you will be able to re-roll ONE perk slot, but that makes the other slots frozen and unable to be changed.

The game just ♥♥♥♥♥ on your time. In VT2 the big weekly quest could take you a few hours, in Darktide, the equivalent quest takes at least double that unless you're speed running the brain-dead lvl 1 difficulty, and for what? A shop with only FOUR completely random items that refresh on a 24 hour period? Even then it would take you around 250 minutes to complete the one quest which provides enough coin for one fifth of an item in that shop, and for high tier weapons, it's more like one sixth or one seventh of the coin needed. For those items you need to save coin from week to week and then make sure you login every 24 hours to check the shop so you don't miss a good roll. It's asinine really

Ordo dockets, the regular currency you get for finishing missions is essentially worthless and the only thing to really do with it is to buy cosmetic recolors of cosmetics, but why would you spend it on those once you get the one you want? Want to spend them at the Armoury on weapons or curios? Well then you get to check the shop every hour and hope that of the completely random set of items that generate you get one that you want, and that item is high enough rating, and has the right perks. The only way to get the highest rating items in the game, is to wait and hope for a very high rating gray salvage item that you can dump upwards of 10 hours of grinding crafting materials into to get the high rating, with no control whatsoever over the perks and blessings that get rolled as the item gets upgraded/consecrated.

Give it a year, maybe two, based on the rate of development progress in their previous titles and their absurd focus on making updates to the MTX store a priority. Maybe then the game will be worth it.

Devs just missed another patch window, with more delays. Haven't played the game in days now because it's just.. not worth it in its current state.
