I have been playing this game since 2010 and have seen many phases of development; the current build of Mortal Online is at least playable and at times fun.

The real criticism I want to put forward here is not about the game, necessarily. Throughout the years there has been an overwhelming amount of GM corruption and Donator favoritism. For those of you who don’t know the game allows for player donations and for stalk-purchases of the company—which has allowed for certain guilds to control roughly 36% of the company. Now you as the reader may be thinking that this is uncanny but surely it wouldn’t translate to real in-game benefits such as pay-to-win, right? Wrong. Wrong 1000x over, wrong. Those groups who control real life assets in the company or have donated real life money in the thousands of dollars, are practically un-banable. They are able to use third party programs and despite consistent outcry from the community it has been obvious exactly how much the real money talks louder than their player base.

The next criticism is about the GM’s themselves. Over the years they have killed players for no reason on countless occasions without recompense. They are themselves in guilds and scout out players and siege equipment in order to protect their assets and when those groups are unable to be killed with the prior notice and the inevitable zerg then their assets get rolled back.  They will ban you for arguing your point of view; either in-game, on the forums, or in IRC/TS. They have and continue to jail people, essentially teleporting a player to a cell where they are unable to play the game, and leave them there for hours without explanation. With video evidence of bugs or hackers the GM staff does absolutely nothing. Bug reports have been given by countless players about broken mechanics, dupes, and so much more which go unfixed for years. The most recent dupe in-game has been around since 2010 and you can imagine the countless amounts of materials and gold gained by players throughout the years that will never be removed and for the love of dark-side cookies there are many many many more issues which I honestly don’t feel inclined to waste my time writing about.

In total sum, it’s not the game in that of itself which is unplayable and therefore the reason for my bad review but the constant favoritism and abuse by the game staff which has been pervasive and rampant for 5 years with little indication that it will end.

As a matter of fact your information is not correct. Firstly, I'm not the player known as Lexorn, rather, I'm Therow! You got that little bit wrong. Also, I personally know more than half of the people on the server have ‘duped’, cheated using cheat engine or other programs, lag switchers, and so many others who have gone un-banned or have been allowed back—they also got to keep all of their cheated stuff. Second, I know for a fact that you are lying about the GM and what this game calls the 'Counselor' staff because I have had friends who were involved in those programs and personally relayed me information of the game-breaking variety. Third, you do know that the 36% your 'ceo' owns only makes up 36% right? The players in question own nearly a controlling share in the company and I have been on the receiving end of your 'special' treatment.

Don't mistake me for a chump, Star Vault staff. You have done wrong by me and your community as a whole and that’s why I do not support your game nor do I recommend it to anyone who wants a smooth gameplay experience without the threat of GM intervention and cheating.

If people can stomach that sort of thing then go for it! It’s a fine game if you can deal with all the bull.

Just wanted to clear up a couple of things here.
I do not know where you get the "certain guilds to control roughly 36% of the company", we are a stock company so we are owned by shareholders that's correct but there are thousands of those and obviously we don't give them any type of special treatment.
36% is roughly what our CEO owns.

It's indeed true that we in the past have had issue with GMs.
But a couple of years ago, we revamped the GMs and removed all the none-paid members of staff so now we only have paid GMs.

These people are not allowed to play the game and only do GM and support work.

Here people can check for themselves and see that this developer is very active on the forums, helpful, friendly and has a great sense of humor.

A developer that is actually very much a part of the community. And definitely the last person people in the community would say was abusive or has any kind of negative attitude towards the games playerbase.

Farmer Joes reply is to Therow/Lexorn. Not the whole community. He may have been wrong about it being Lexorn and a bit harsh in an open forum. But Lexorn was a bad apple and poison to MO in many ways. History that goes far beyond this thread.

The comment about time was more to point out that we really don't know the whole story here. Not that it really ment anything in itself. So people should take the time to check things out for themselves.

Yeah.. You guys do not know if Farmer Joe is a good guy.

But, I really am not asking or expecting anyone to take my word for it. I am suggesting that people look into it further themselves before making a final judgement based on anything in this thread.

@tinastroud You are correct, not everything is as it seems, but the developer did responded to Therow's accusations with a cynical reply, which he edited. Does the time Therow played really matter? He actually gave a great conclusion to his review, "It’s not the game in that of itself which is unplayable and therefore the reason for my bad review but the constant favoritism and abuse by the game staff." Farmer Joe's un-edited reply emphasizes the attitudes the devs have towards it's playerbase. Again, you are right, we shouldn't take everything off the internet as truth, so saying Farmer Joe is a good guy, well, we don't know.

We really dont have background info on that either.

All I know is that Farmer Joe is a pretty good guy. And he is passionate for the game he is trying to create. So it is somewhat understandable that he would get defensive towards someone that is bashing his hard work.

One odd thing to note.

The game had not even been out on steam for 2 months before the righting of this review and the reviewer shows 344 hours playing the game. For someone that has so many issues with the game they sure did play it a lot after steam release. Which was way after many of these issues happened and where corrected in game.

So one may want to question the motivations of this reviewer.

As with everything on the net. One should be sure not to take everything you read as gospel and check things out for yourself.

How can people put out such an awesome looking game, and not have the basic intelligence to NOT shoot themselves in the foot when they are cheating the life out of their populace? Smart enough to create a game, too stupid to be a criminal. Not even gonna waste anymore time here.
