Decided to break from my playthrough of Half Life 1 to try out Barney's story in Blue Shift, only to beat the entire game in just under 3 hours.

It's a bite-sized yet fun Half Life story, and you'll enjoy it if you like HL1. I haven't tried Opposing Force yet but I hear that expansion is longer, and a lot of people reccomend playing Blue Shift before Opposing Force anyway. It's just more Half-Life; if you like Half-Life, you'll like this game.

IF YOU'RE GONNA PLAY THIS GAME, GET THE DREAMCAST RESTORATION MOD. It brings this game back to the way it was on the original Dreamcast version, with very few (if any) of the bugs that plague the original port, the old lighting engine restored, and looking the way it was originally meant to be played; all in HD widescreen at 60Fps. It's the definitive version of this game. It comes in an all-in one installer so it's easy as pushing a button (besides customizing how you want it).

For the game itself, it was a wild romp through my childhood (except the Windy Valley theme doesn't play constantly, which is a good thing). The writing, graphics, and voice acting were a product of their time, but I still appreciate the effort and thinks it gives this game it's own charming aesthetic. And, in my opinion, the gameplay still holds up in 2021. I actually found myself liking most of the 6 stories (with the big exception being... BIG the cat. That said, his section can be beaten quickly if you know how, and you only have to do it once).

It's not a terribly long or difficult game by Sonic standards, but it's a fun experience.

This is the only time I'm giving EA money.
I grew up with this game and I still love it now. My only consistent issue is that it crashes a lot and there's no autosave.

I started playing this game, beat it, and wrote this review, all in one day. Yet I still had fun.

People have praised this game for being the perfect gateway game (i.e if you wanted to introduce videogames to someone who doesn't play them, this is the perfect first game). I can see where they're coming from: It has aged extremely well when compared to modern standards, it's short and sweet while also challenging, etc etc. I can definitely recommend this game. If i decide to replay it, I'll update this review if I liked it more the second time around or not.

Can't wait to try the sequel!
