This game is pretty dope.

Remember Alien Swarm? Remember how awesome it was? Remember what a shame it was that it only had one campaign?

Reactive Drop brings several more campaigns. More content, more game modes. More players, PvP. Steam workshop support. You could be playing this forever.

And it's still completely free.

It's beautiful, it has pretty tight controls, it's really immersive, and it's an experience you can't get from any other game.

But Rain World has the worst conveyance I've ever seen.

Everything about this game is trial and error. Every area you enter will kill you repeatedly until you understand every reason it kills you. Then they will keep killing you repeatedly because you can't know where to go. And occasionally it'll kill you because it decided to spawn a centipede in the only corridor you can take and it never goes away.

That level of unfair difficulty does well to serve the game's atmosphere. But it makes it awful to play, for a more important reason. You have no idea what you're doing. You have no idea where you're going. You have no idea whether you're going the right way, at any point. The level design is so obtuse and ambiguous that everything looks like a death trap. There's a story to follow, but you have no idea where to follow it. This makes the entire game feel aimless.

It turns out, frustration combined with aimlessness leads to a terrible experience. The atmosphere and uniqueness could've carried one of those flaws. But not both.

Easily the greatest PvP game in recent history. Already fully playable, frequently updated, great community.

Well worth the entry price.

Nonsensical story masquerading as pretentious literature. Extremely straight-forward "puzzles," an hour's worth of forced walking from one place to the next. It may look and sound gorgeous, but not one element of the game serves to enhance another. A typical example of a "story-driven game" that has neither a game worth playing nor a story worth engaging with.
