As one of the leading esports titles, DOTA2 has a lot of similarities to traditional sports when it comes to the emotional highs and lows. It can be immensely frustrating. You may want to punch someone in the face. It can be immensely exciting. You may want to brag to your friends about it. It can have extreme lows and highs in a single game.
Like many traditional sports, there are obvious rules and regulations that everyone is bound by. However, unlike most traditional sports, there are copious technical aspects to keep track of in terms of game play and combinations of pieces (heroes, items, tactics, etc.).
Though one of the most technically complex games out there, it's something that can be played and enjoyed by most. Despite more recent bugs, it's still a title deserving of the prestige it's earned in the esports arena.
