Remember all of the frustrating knockbacks that would lead to instant death in the first game? Multiply them by 10. Remember how you could avoid some of those knockbacks by teleporting in mid-air or by using Earth armor? Remove the ability to teleport mid-air and remove the knockback resistance on Earth armor.

Magicka 2.

The humor is much flatter, with the fake language much closer to English.
Various changes have been made to the element queuing system, but not for the better.

The game is overall less enjoyable than the first one.

Blockland has a bit of a history. In 2005, it was a little work-in-progress building game on the Torque Game Engine. Being an alpha, it had (here comes a massive understatement) quite a few mods that generated a larger following. The full game released in 2007, and much more polished than anything seen before. Streams of updates from the game's sole creator (with some collaboration thrown in) in the past six years have created a unique game that nothing can hope to come close to.

So, what's the main point? Blockland is That Game Where You Build Stuff. It's all on you, and the community. Using LEGO-like blocks to create structures in online multiplayer may sound mundane on paper, but the online part is where it really shines. The amount of creativity Blockland players have is nothing short of amazing. User-created add-ons like weapons and vehicles are plentiful, allowing for different and fun gamemodes within buildings YOU create, and an "events" system gives way for even more creativity within builds.

An accessible sandbox game for such a price is almost a steal.

An incredibly faithful reboot that does everything right. Level, visual, and sound designs are great, the weapons feel good, it's insanely fast, and there's an arcade-like scoring system. At $15 USD, you get single-player AND multiplayer with free DLC. That's a complete steal, considering the game's modest budget.

A challenging (and frustrating) roguelike with an amazing atmosphere. It's like a cross between DOOM and System Shock.

A challenging (and sometimes frustrating) platformer with a great soundtrack.

A legitimate "reboot" that changes almost everything from the original 1997 game, but not for better or for worse. It's simply different.

A solid shooter with great humor and pretty good music. Some weapons leave a bit to be desired, especially before they're upgraded, but the Katana remains one of the most fun weapons in any shooter.

Surprisingly, the story is good too, though you don't really have to pay attention to that.

LUDICROUS GIBS

Great value. Three underrated classic first-person shooters that were eclipsed by the more famous names from the era, but are thoroughly enjoyable in their own right.
