Inaccurate statement. A new account starts with 100 gold coins, used for creating multiplayer games and/or betting/sponsoring. Considering a new account doesn't waste their gold by betting it all on one game or sponsoring it all on one game, it costs 5 gold coins to create a game. That is enough gold to create and play 20 games. Multiply that by however many friends you are playing with as each could create just as many games on a new account. Also, players receive 5 gold coins per day they log in. I would be impressed if any friends were to play our game that much and find themselves lacking the funds to create a new game. 0.5 hours is certainly not enough time for one to find themselves in this position.

You may wonder, "Why even have the gold system at all then?" One reason is to prevent game creation spam that clogs the server with empty games and incentivize players to join rather than create. Another reason is that it is a way for players to purchase maps and other content such as improved avatar creator and clan creation without spending any real world money on the game. By winning sponsored or betting games, many players have purchased everything anyone could want without spending a dime.
