Possibly one of the most engaging games I've ever played, from both a technical and gameplay perspective. I loved every moment of it, even if I have had dozens of hours of frustration with.... certain elements involving AI (being both here and the Switch).

As mentioned above, there are elements that can thwart an otherwise excellent run unfairly. The AI might just pop up in the most unexpected and unfair locations. However, the AI's unpredictability is just as much of a strength as it is a flaw. It is brutal at times, but it can be beneficial and even mind-blowing in certain scenarios.

There are many things to discover in the game. People may not come across them in their entire experience from start to finish. An example might be a certain green overseer - a little easter egg. Let's get more practical with our 'secrets', shall we?

This next part contains SPOILERS. Still, these are mechanics of the game that are initially very difficult to discover on your own once you have the general mindset of "Everything is bad, flee all of the things."

Now, where was I...?

So, let's go over an example of a practical secret:

You have a pearl. This pearl can be used for a multitude of things (keep that in mind). The single most important aspect about this pearl is the fact that you gain 'reputation' with creatures called 'scavengers', scavs for short. Generally, scavengers might throw spears or rocks at you, or in your general direction. If you have a pearl in your hand, they may gesture at you as though they desire something. You toss the pearl in their direction and they immediately react, snatching it up and retreating (take note of the way that scav looks, by the way)

Guess what? You've gained reputation with the scavengers. They grow less hostile over time. They might even begin to follow and protect you; join you in your hibernation chamber (safe room during the cataclysmic downpour)

If you knew that, what about applying reputation to something else.... the demonic disco lizards, perhaps? Yes, you can TAME lizards. Try feeding a specific lizard. Give them a centipede or a flying squid. They really don't care about fruit or bats; slugcats are more interesting.

There are so many elements to this game. There are stories to be had and moments that will stick with you. Your memories of the game, once you get past its flaws, are some of the most unique you'll ever experience.

Don't shrug this one off. Push past the frustration and anger. Explore and look up information on the wiki if you're stuck. Don't be ashamed. I've done it and I absolutely do not regret it for my first run.

It is my favorite game of all time. I hope you'll give it a shot and enjoy it as much as I have.

P.S. Check out Parsec and the multiplayer mod. It is ridiculously fun, even with the small latency issues; really minor stuff.
