This is the best cheapest halo clone i've ever played. They even ported in the warthog, tank, and magnum, along with mechwarrior mechs. I've gotten better value playing this rediculous game than many others in my library that cost 10-50x more.

At first the game starts off confusing because you're trying to overcomplicate it.

Once you get past that and tone down a bit, this game is actually closer to jedi knights II with power unlocks through research and etc. It's more of a mod than a new game.

Everything you earn in solo carries over to multiplayer too by the way, as of this review the game is 99c and worth it. Buy it for a knockoff jedi knights II experience with custom maps you can add in to gain more experience for your avatar.

To save the world from a wall of text, Here's the bullet points of why I don't recommend Xcom. (bought it with expansion pack).

-Menu crippling bug, wont let you click or save anything, gotta exit game often after every 2-3 missions you do. STILL not fixed after all this time.

-Maximum away team size = 6. This means every troop is now a super specialist, and that you will always be using your top 6 guys and just reloading a save if one dies.

-Game difficulty starts off easy, swoops up to hard midway, then super easy after you've researched 75% of tech due to insanely high health pools on your troops, and you get to heal too in nice aoe clouds. This is the same regardless of difficulty you pick.

-Pointless Skill Tree's: Every skill selection is A or B, and you will be selecting the same crap every time anyways, since 50% of the skills are there as filler.

-Terrible replay value: if you complete the game on a normalish difficulty, it will have been by using the same 6 troops and 95-100% tech researched, the missions are randomly generated but ultimately the entire game feels incredibly linear with trigger points.


Rating: 4/10, Buggy, Tedious, loses its fun value after nostalgia wears off. Get it under 5 dollars or not at all.

The most complete war experience you can have in a game as of thus far. AAA titles like BF, CoD, etc don't even come close. Multiple vehicle, class, aircraft selection, multiple weapons unlockable for each. regions and bases to conquer all at once, squad and platoon warfare... The only game where i've seen 250+ dudes on screen at once engaged in all out kickassery. Iz guud.

I was looking for a good turn based space game for a long time ever since Master of Orion II back in the DOS days. This is honestly the closest thing I could find to the aforementioned game. Good race/trait selection, galaxy sizes provides for 4 hour - multiple days gameplay. Diverse research tree and lots of good random events keep you going from start to finish. Battles are automatic sort of...you select cards that modify your battle strategies and watch the results in real time. I like it.

I never played the first portal, but this was my first "Puzzle" game purchase. There's a good blend of humor in it, and something I can't quite put my finger on that kept me attempting to solve a level just to see the next. It progresses in difficulty as you go, and I was so hooked I almost couldn't stop playing it (almost beat it in one playthrough).

I don't really play many rpgs anymore, but this one had a certain taste to it that reminded me of the first Star Wars: KotoR. You start off as a very basic witcher, and complete chapters in "Area's" building up your powers/skillset until you have a full fledged badass by the end. It's different than the run of the mill RPG's you see today, And at such a cheap price i'd recommend picking up a copy.

Total war with guns. Generals and cav in general are susceptible to quick gun death if they engage head on. Infantry is more about volley combat rather than melee. Cannons are an actual big deal unlike most total war games. All in all good stuff, though a bit different than the traditional total war games.
