So I guess I'd become what they wanted me to be: a killer. Some rent-a-clown with a gun who puts holes in other bad guys. Well, that's what they had paid for, so in the end, that's what they got. Say what you want about Americans, but we understand capitalism. You buy yourself a product, and you get what you pay for. And these chumps had paid for some angry gring0 without the sensibilities to know right from wrong. Here I was, about to execute this poor bastard like some dime-store angel of death, and I realized: they were correct. I wouldn't know right from wrong if one of them was helping the poor and the other was banging my sister...
Meet the Engineer
Hey look, buddy, I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like "what is beauty?", because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.

I solve practical problems.

For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work? Use more gun. Like this heavy-caliber tripod-mounted little old number designed by me, built by me, and you best hope...

Not pointed at you.

In an alternate World War II, the war lasted longer, and the Axis Powers are curbstomping the Allies. This was caused by a sudden technological leap that the Nazis have made. In a last-ditch attempt to turn the tide, ol' B.J. Blazkowicz and a group of soldiers are sent on a suicide mission to take down the vile scientist responsible for the Nazis' batsh*t insane technology: Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse, an old foe of B.J.'s. Despite the Allied Powers' best efforts, this mission fails, and B.J. ends up barely escaping alive, suffering head trauma in the process. Fast forward 14 years later to 1960, B.J. wakes up in an insane asylum in Poland. It turns out that Nazi Germany has won the war, backstabbed their fellow Axis nations, and has conquered much of the world as we know it. He sets out to get in contact with the resistance, the Kreisau Circle, and wage a new war against the Nazi regime in order to set things right.

Gameplay-wise, this is a solid FPS. It mostly harkens back to old-school FPSes, while welding it with just enough modern mechanics to make it a rather organic combination of game styles. The guns are fairly fun to use, especially the ones that can be dual-wielded. Enemies are challenging, but fun to fight against. The "perks" help add some depth to the gameplay itself. Then there is the story and writing. The characters you come across are very compelling, especially B.J. Blazkowicz. They humanized him in a way that I really like. Then there is the way the game handles the Nazis as antagonists. Most FPSes with Nazis as the villains, including previous Wolfenstein games, are content with simply saying "Nazis are evil, go shoot 'em up." I do get why that is the case, because "Nazis are evil" is a pretty self-explanatory thing to say. But what makes this game's depiction of them work is that it specifically shows why the Nazis are evil: Nazism and fascism are inherently toxic and destructive ideologies, with its adherents being racist, genocidal, Social Darwinist, hegemonic, reactionary, and totalitarian a**holes. Thus, it makes more satisfying to kick their asses in-game, especially with dual-wielded assault rifles.

This is one of my favorite FPSes of all time, and it is one I can highly recommend.
Silent Melody Lyrics
If ever we drop

Remember we lost

Inside the reasons

Whatever we'll know

A silent melody, a surface memory

A sound symphony became a part of me

A sudden shift between a different frequency

My hand has spread the sea

It's like there's a god in me...

And when the fear comes

White amber rain falls

A somber wind calms

I'm under his thumb

What have I let go?

What have I become?

I don't know either

Whatever we'll know

A silent melody, a surface memory

A sound symphony became a part of me

A sudden shift between a different frequency

My hand has spread the sea

It's like there's a god in me...

A silent melody, a surface memory

A sound symphony became a part of me

It's like there's a god in me...

It's like there's a god in me...

It's like there's a god in me...
